Job summary

UT-Battelle's Oak Ridge National Laboratory seeks a Computational Instrument Scientist to develop software analysis tools for powder diffraction instruments within the Neutron Scattering program.

You will work with the Powder Diffraction Group to support data reduction, analysis and modeling, train users, publish results, and build collaborations while upholding ORNL core values and pursuing a high-quality personal research program.

Qualifications

• PhD in physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, or related field.
• Two or more years of research experience beyond PhD.
• Proven track record of scientific software development.

Responsibilities

• Communicate and refine software requirements for data reduction, analysis and modeling.
• Develop documentation and tutorials for data acquisition, reduction and analysis.
• Participate in instrument upgrade projects with a focus on software development.
• Triage and prioritize issues and bugs reported by users.
• Provide user support as local contact and train users to operate instruments.
