The APP participates in pre-, intra-, and post-operative care, conducts histories and exams, helps with treatment planning, and serves as a key member of the neurosurgical team under supervision.

Qualifications

• A valid NC PA or FNP license is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physicals.
• Interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests.
• Develops treatment plans for neurosurgical conditions with the neurosurgeon.
• First assistant at surgery; rounds and consultations in hospitals.
• Manages post-operative care and coordinates office duties.
• Orders radiographic studies and reviews imaging with the attending neurosurgeon.
• Maintains HIPAA compliance and promotes teamwork.

General Job Summary

Advanced practice providers on our team play an integral role in the global management of neurosurgical patients, including all aspects of pre-, intra- and post-operative care. Neurosurgery APPs perform patient histories, help with treatment plans, manage post-operative care, and handle myriad office-related duties and you will work under the supervision of the Neurosurgeons.

Essential Job Responsibilities

• Performs comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physical examinations
• Interprets laboratory and diagnostic tests
• Interprets and correlates subjective and objective data
• Formulates a differential diagnosis and establishes a working diagnosis
• Develops a treatment plan for neurosurgical conditions within the scope of practice and in conjunction with the neurosurgeon
• Implements therapeutic intervention for specific conditions where appropriate
• Exercises judgment on conditions requiring consultation, referral or evaluation by the supervising neurosurgeon or other healthcare professionals

Office & Hospital Duties & Responsibilities

• Sees all new office patients and completes a thorough history and physical examination that is problem-oriented for neurosurgical conditions
• First assistant at surgery
• Rounds and Consults at Hospitals
• Takes Call
• Presents the patient to attending neurosurgeons
• Helps to formulate treatment plans
• Orders appropriate radiographic studies
• Evaluates post-operative patients and does routine follow-up visits
• Is available to see patients requiring same-day office visits
• Returns patient phone calls
• Handles prescription refills
• Reviews radiographic reports and laboratory reports for abnormalities
• Reviews x-rays, MRIs and CT scans of hospitalized patients and office patients with the attending neurosurgeon
• Evaluates, screens and counsels patients on health maintenance and promotes utilization of community resources
• Designs, conducts and/or participates in research studies
• Manages databases
• Performs quality assurance
• Complies with all of our processes and HIPAA regulations.
