Job summary

The Allen Institute in Seattle is seeking a Research Associate I in Neurosurgery & Behavior to perform aseptic surgical procedures on mice and lead behavioral training regimens within a collaborative Neural Dynamics accelerator. You will work closely with a team in a deadline-driven environment.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in neuroscience or biology, experience handling rodents, and the ability to learn complex surgical techniques on mice.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, biology, or a related field.
  • Prior experience handling rodents (mice or rats).
  • Proven ability to learn and perform challenging surgical procedures on mice.
  • Basic knowledge of mouse genetics and anatomy.

Responsibilities

  • Perform various aseptic surgical procedures in mice
  • Perform various behavioral training regimens with mice
  • Involvement in various transgenic technologies employed in the animal facility
  • Pre- and post-operative care for mice
  • Administration of compounds to mice (i.p., s.c., i.m.)
  • Maintenance of health and behavior performance records
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and maintain good laboratory practices
  • Maintain accurate laboratory documentation and reporting using established methods
  • Ability to meet aggressive timelines and deliverables in a collaborative environment

Education

Bachelor’s degree in neuroscience, biology, or a related field
Prior experience handling rodents
