Job summary

The University of Virginia’s Campbell Lab in Charlottesville is seeking a Research Laboratory Technician to support research on neural control of appetite, digestion, and metabolism. Responsibilities include mouse surgery, colony management, and processing advanced lab assays.

Preferred candidates hold a Bachelor’s in neuroscience or biology, with experience in protocol writing and supervision. The role involves documentation, animal protocol oversight, and training students, in a full-time UVA

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree required; equivalent experience considered.
  • 2+ years of lab experience expected.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in neuroscience, biology, or related field.
  • Experience with genotyping and surgical/procedural lab work.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mouse surgery including stereotaxic injections and optical fiber implantation.
  • Manage a mouse colony: husbandry, DNA genotyping, records.
  • Process immunofluorescence, in situ hybridization, and single-cell RNA-Seq; maintain supplies.
  • Provide training to undergraduate researchers and new graduate students.
  • Maintain lab documentation and animal protocol management.
