Job summary

Kelly Government Solutions is recruiting a Neuroscience Research Specialist to work on-site at the National Institutes of Health in Rockville, MD. This long-term contract role involves supporting laboratory operations, maintaining cell culture systems, and performing molecular biology procedures.

The candidate will synthesize and transcribe mRNA, manage genotyping workflows, and train staff while ensuring safety and accuracy across LIN and NIAAA projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Neuroscience, Biochemistry, or related scientific discipline is required.
• Minimum of 3 years of hands-on laboratory research experience in cell and molecular biology.
• Experience with mammalian cell culture, DNA cloning, transfection, PCR-based genotyping, and work with transgenic or genetically modified mouse models.
• Experience supporting laboratory management and operations including sample tracking, documentation, data analysis, supplies, and training.

Responsibilities

• Provide support and maintenance for cell culture, genotype and cloning technology efforts for LIN and NIAAA.
• Synthesize and polyadenylate mRNA; transfect cells to express proteins.
• Perform genotyping, cell culture, transfection, DNA cloning and related procedures.
• Serve as core facility manager overseeing genotyping procedures for LIN and other labs.
• Create and test cDNA constructs for molecular biology experiments.
• Maintain cells and transfect with cDNA constructs.
• Organize and maintain lab samples, supplies and equipment.
• Maintain detailed records and manage procurement and specimen preservation.
• Work safely with biohazards and maintain a safe lab environment.
• Analyze data using dispersion, ANOVA, regression and correlation for publication.
• Train staff and assist students and lab assistants.
