The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) Neuroscience Department seeks a Research Specialist to join the Schmidt lab and lead assays for brain cancer research. The role blends basic science with translational training and supports lab setup, organization and hands‑on experiments.

Ideal candidates have a STEM degree and familiarity with neural stem cells, organoids, and molecular biology techniques. Training will be provided; November 2026 start is possible.

Formación

• High school diploma with two years in clinical or research setting; a bachelor’s degree may substitute for two years of experience.
• Knowledge of basic cell and molecular biology protocols required.
• Willingness to learn advanced wet-lab techniques (CRISPR editing, sequencing, etc.).
• Strong organizational, multitasking, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsabilidades

• 30% Tissue Culture: maintain stem cell lines and cultures, perform assays and keep lab inventory.
• 30% Wet Lab Procedures: cloning, CRISPR, RNA/protein isolation, qRT-PCR, Western blot, imaging and sequencing prep.
• 25% General Lab Maintenance: organize supplies, maintain safety and cleanliness, train new members.
• 15% Animal Husbandry: intracranial injections in mice, monitor tumor growth and perform imaging.
