Job summary

Gladstone Institutes is seeking a Research Associate I to support age-related neurodegeneration research. You will culture and differentiate patient-derived iPSCs into neurons, microglia, astrocytes, and organoids, and perform imaging-based assays using advanced biosensors.

You will also execute molecular biology workflows (DNA prep, qPCR) and analytical steps (ELISA, Western blot, immunocytochemistry), then curate data for ML studies and publications.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Biology, Biotechnology, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience with cell culture, microscopy, and cellular/molecular biology techniques is required.
• Familiarity with immunofluorescence, automated/confocal microscopy is a plus.
• Experience with machine learning and deep learning approaches to analyze imaging datasets is desirable.
• Willingness to learn new skills and to work both independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and differentiate human patient iPSCs to neurons, microglia, astrocytes, and organoids; perform transfections and viral transductions; run cell-based assays with imaging and other approaches.
• Conduct automated and manual imaging assays using biosensors for cell survival, neuroinflammation, autophagy, and related functions.
• Perform ELISA, western blotting, immunocytochemistry, immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, and spectral imaging.
• Carry out molecular biology techniques including DNA prep, cloning, gel electrophoresis, and qPCR.
• Analyze imaging data with basic computational tools (R, Galaxy, ImageJ) to support ML datasets and publications.
• Document procedures and communicate results in meetings and reports.
