Job description

Position Title: Neurophysiology Technologist I - PRN
Department: Neurophysiology
Job Description:

Shift: PRN (As Needed)

General Description:

Under direct supervision, assists in performing various Neurophysiology procedures that aid in diagnosing and treating nerve and brain disorders.

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Records and identifies Neurophysiology data in various settings.
  2. After supervised orientation: obtains patient history, attaches electrodes, operates Neurophysiology equipment, observes studies, analyzes wave graphs, documents findings indicating disorders or artifacts, and adjusts settings as needed.
  3. Cares for patients of all ages, prepares them for Neurophysiology studies, completes post-study paperwork, and maintains patient files. Adheres to hospital and departmental guidelines. Participates in educational and departmental meetings.
  4. Observes Neurophysiology data and is willing to acquire new skills under the guidance of physicians, nurse practitioners, managers, and technologists, including work in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit.
  5. Participates in maintaining equipment and reports repairs. Keeps work environment clean and organized.
General Responsibilities:
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
  • High School Diploma or GED. An Associate's degree in science or a health-related field is preferred.
Experience:
  • 0-3 years of experience. Experience in Neurophysiology, Neurodiagnostics, or Polysomnography is preferred.
Licenses/Certifications/Registrations:
  • Become board eligible according to ASET Pathways within 3 years. Certification as a Neurodiagnostics Technologist is strongly preferred within 5 years.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required upon hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to provide excellent patient care.
  • Basic understanding of physiology.
  • Cognitive and psychomotor skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff and physicians.
  • Basic computer skills.
