Job summary

Bayhealth is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Neuromuscular Neurology Physician to join our outpatient Neurology practice. The physician will provide comprehensive evaluation and management of adult patients with neuromuscular disorders, including peripheral nerve diseases, myopathies, and motor neuron conditions, in an outpatient setting.

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree from an accredited institution.
• Completed Neurology residency program.
• Board certification or eligibility in Neurology.
• Valid medical license or ability to obtain licensure in Delaware.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive neuromuscular history and neurological examination.
• Diagnose and manage complex neuromuscular disorders.
• Develop individualized treatment plans and longitudinal care plans.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary care for patients with complex neuromuscular disease.
• Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic testing, including electrodiagnostic studies when applicable.
• Collaborate with related services (PM&R, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Rheumatology, Pulmonology, Genetics, PT, OT).
• Provide patient and family education regarding diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, and disease management.
• Manage immunomodulatory and other disease-specific therapies as appropriate to clinical practice.
• Participate in quality improvement and development of neuromuscular clinical pathways.

Job Summary

We are seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Neuromuscular Neurology Physician to join our outpatient Neurology practice.

The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive, specialized neurological care to adult patients with neuromuscular disorders in an outpatient setting. The physician will evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with a broad range of peripheral nerve, neuromuscular junction, motor neuron, and muscle disorders, while collaborating with other Neurosciences specialists and multidisciplinary clinical services.

This position offers an outpatient-focused practice with opportunities to develop and expand specialized neuromuscular services within Bayhealth’s Neurosciences program.

• Peripheral neuropathies and polyneuropathies
• Diabetic and other metabolic neuropathies
• Entrapment neuropathies and peripheral nerve disorders
• Motor neuron diseases, including ALS
• Myasthenia gravis and other neuromuscular junction disorders
• Inflammatory and autoimmune myopathies
• Muscular dystrophies and inherited myopathies
• Myositis and other acquired muscle disorders
• CIDP and other immune-mediated neuropathies
• Radiculopathies and plexopathies
• Small fiber neuropathy
• Other complex neuromuscular disorders

Clinical Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive neuromuscular history and neurological examination
• Diagnose and manage complex neuromuscular disorders
• Develop individualized treatment plans and longitudinal care plans
• Coordinate multidisciplinary care for patients with complex neuromuscular disease
• Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic testing, including electrodiagnostic studies when applicable
• Collaborate with Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Rheumatology, Pulmonology, Genetics, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and other appropriate services
• Provide patient and family education regarding diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, and disease management
• Manage immunomodulatory and other disease-specific therapies as appropriate to clinical practice
• Participate in quality improvement and development of neuromuscular clinical pathways

Program Development Opportunities

• Expansion of specialized neuromuscular outpatient services
• Development of standardized referral and treatment pathways for neuromuscular disorders
• Growth of electrodiagnostic and EMG/NCS services
• Development of multidisciplinary care pathways for ALS and other progressive neuromuscular diseases
• Collaboration with existing Neurosciences programs to improve access to subspecialty neurological care
• Development of quality and outcomes initiatives focused on neuromuscular disease
• Education of advanced practice clinicians, nursing staff, residents, and other healthcare professionals as applicable

Job Requirements

• Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution
• Completion of an accredited Neurology residency program
• Board certification or eligibility in Neurology
• Valid medical license or ability to obtain licensure in Delaware
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Commitment to high-quality, patient-centered neurological care
• Fellowship training in Neuromuscular Medicine and/or Clinical Neurophysiology
• Experience evaluating and treating complex neuromuscular disorders
• Experience with EMG/NCS and electrodiagnostic medicine

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience caring for patients with ALS and other motor neuron disease
• Experience managing myasthenia gravis and other neuromuscular junction disorders
• Experience with inflammatory myopathies and immune-mediated neuropathies
• Interest or experience in development of a neuromuscular program
• Interest in clinical education and/or quality improvement

Work Schedule

• Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• Outpatient-focused practice
• No hospital rounding or overnight call unless otherwise specified
• Part-time opportunities may be available

Practice Environment

The Neuromuscular Neurology Physician will join Bayhealth’s multidisciplinary Neurosciences service line and collaborate with Neurology, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Neurointerventional Surgery, Rehabilitation, and other clinical services. The position provides an opportunity to build a specialized neuromuscular practice while contributing to the continued growth of comprehensive Neurosciences services at Bayhealth.
