Job summary

Upstate Veterinary Specialties in Latham, NY is seeking a Neurology Veterinary Assistant to join our growing specialty team. You will support the Neurology department through patient care, client communication, diagnostic testing, and daily workflow.

The ideal candidate has veterinary assistant experience with patient restraint and history taking, and familiarity with lab procedures. Certification is preferred but not required; we offer training and opportunities for advancement in specialty

Qualifications

• Previous Veterinary Assistant experience involving patient restraint, history taking, laboratory sample management, and patient care.
• Experience working in a specialty or hospital environment is a plus.
• Veterinary Assistant Certification preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Support daily workflow and assist the Neurology team in delivering outstanding patient care.
• Restrain and handle patients for examinations, diagnostics, and procedures.
• Obtain and document accurate patient histories and medication information.
• Review medical records, referrals, bloodwork, and radiographs for necessary information.
• Assist with diagnostic testing and laboratory procedures.
• Set up and assist with MRI, CT, and fluoroscopy procedures.
• Assist with patient preparation and induction for anesthetic procedures.
• Maintain aseptic technique and OR setup.
• Communicate treatment plans to clients.
• Coordinate client services and patient care with other specialty departments as needed.
• Partner with doctors and support staff to optimize daily patient flow and efficiency.
• Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety within the Neurology department.
• Follow UVS protocols and OSHA regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
• Assist other areas of the hospital during non-peak times as needed.
• Participate in department meetings, special projects, reports, and hospital initiatives.
• Proactively identify opportunities to improve workflow and enhance the patient and client experience.

What You’ll Do:

• Support daily workflow and assist the Neurology team in delivering outstanding patient care
• Safely restrain and handle patients for examinations, diagnostics, and procedures
• Obtain and document accurate patient medical histories, chief complaints, and medication information
• Review medical records, referrals, bloodwork, and radiographs to ensure necessary information is available
• Assist with diagnostic testing and laboratory procedures
• Set up and assist with MRI, CT, and fluoroscopy procedures
• Assist with patient preparation and induction for anesthetic procedures
• Assist with operating room setup and maintain proper aseptic technique
• Develop proficiency with veterinary equipment, instruments, and patient care software
• Communicate patient treatment plans and medical information effectively with clients
• Coordinate client services and patient care with other specialty departments as needed
• Partner with doctors and support staff to optimize daily patient flow and efficiency
• Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety within the Neurology department

Experience
