Job summary

Duke Neurology of Raleigh clinic in Raleigh, NC is seeking a Medical Assistant to be an integral member of the healthcare team to provide direct and indirect care to patients.

The position supports physicians and nurses, taking medical histories, recording vital signs, processing refills, coordinating labs, and preparing patients for examinations. Certification within 18 months of hire is required; six months of healthcare experience is helpful.

Qualifications

• Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant program strongly preferred.
• High School diploma or GED graduation required.
• Six months of experience in the healthcare setting. Education in a health related field can be used as a substitute for the experience.
• Must be fully certified as a Medical Assistant (AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA) within 18 months of hire.
• Level I -- No experience required.
• Level II -- 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified in a clinical setting.

Responsibilities

• Take medical histories and record vital signs.
• Tee-up drug refills as directed.
• Assist with prior authorization needs for prescriptions.
• Prepare patients for examinations and procedures.
• Obtain and scan medical records.
• Reschedule appointments when clinics are cancelled in less than 45 days.
