Job summary

Connecticut Children's seeks a Neurodiagnostic Technologist II to join our pediatric EEG team. This entry to midlevel role performs test setup, electrode application, and ensures patient safety during clinically significant events under the supervision of senior staff.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in or graduation from a CAAHEP accredited Neurodiagnostic Program, or an Associate’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university is desired.
• BLS Healthcare Provider CPR certification required at time of hire.
• 6 months or more experience in Pediatrics preferred.
• Registry eligible or certification within 7 years of hire from American Board Registered Electroencephalographic Technologists (ABRET).

Responsibilities

• Performs test setup, electrode application, and maintains patient safety during EEG procedures.
• Communicates effectively with patients and care teams regarding procedures and results.
• Operates and troubleshoots EEG equipment; recognizes artifacts and basic waveform patterns.
• Follows policies for EEG reporting, charging, and entry into the electronic health records; supports a clean, organized workspace.

Job Description

The Neurodiagnostic Technologist II is an entry to midlevel positon in the Neurodiagnostic unit or department. The Neurodiagnostic Technologist II is able to meet all criteria for The Neurodiagnostic Technologist I in addition to The Neurodiagnostic Technologist II role responsibilities. The Neurodiagnostic Technologist II can perform test set up, electrode application, and maintain patient safety during clinically significant events and other related duties. Communication is essential for this position.

Responsibilities

The Neurodiagnostic Technologist II ensures electrode application in adherence with the International 10-20 system; is knowledgeable in EEG performance and recognition of clinically significant events and follows facility policy and procedures regarding critical test results; maintains the patient safety in communication to other patient care support staff during EEG if needed; continues to learn and apply basic and intermediate EEG waveform recognition, relevant medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, infection control, current HIPPA practices, contraindications for activation procedures, instrumentation and preparation for use; performs patient assessment as related to care such as electrode fixation, product allergies, movement restrictions, and cognitive functions, knows and recognizes drug and physiological status effects on activity monitored.

The Neurodiagnostic Technologist II communicates appropriately and effectively with the patient and healthcare staff to convey the purpose of the EEG and answers questions regarding the procedure, understands why and how to maintain correct electrode connections; identifies and performs basic and intermediate technical troubleshooting and artifact identification and elimination; understands and flows concepts of digital equipment and electrical safety within the EEG unit; has knowledge of alternate montage protocols, and alternate equipment settings and their effects should be applied.

The Neurodiagnostic Technologist II is familiar with the facility policies and procedures for completion of the technical EEG report, charging procedures, and logging the patient into electronic health records; contacts supervisory staff as appreciate for problems within the EEG unit, stocks supplies and prepares patient rooms for EEG procedures; performs any other related duties that is consistent with patient and technical care for this level.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEREQUIRED

Education Preferred: Enrollment in or graduation form a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited Neurodiagnostic Program, or an Associate’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university is desired.

Education Required: BLS Healthcare Provider CPR certification required at time of hire

Experience Preferred: 6 months or more experience in Pediatrics desired.
