Position Summary

The Neurodiagnostic Technologist (NDT) uses electro-neurodiagnostic equipment to perform tests as directed by a physician to diagnose neurological conditions such as epilepsy, seizure disorders, strokes, motor neuron disorders, and degenerative brain diseases. Specific job responsibilities are contingent on department need and competency to perform specific diagnostic tests.

Essential Functions
  • Summarize technical data to assist physicians to diagnose nervous system disorders.
  • Conduct tests or studies such as electroencephalography (EEG), polysomnography (PSG), nerve conduction studies (NCS), and electromyography (EMG) submitting reports to physicians summarizing test results.
  • Measure patients' body parts and mark locations where electrodes are to be placed.
  • Attach electrodes to patients using adhesives.
  • Adjust equipment to optimize viewing of the nervous system.
  • Collect patients' medical information needed to perform and customize tests as needed. Explain testing procedures to patients, answering questions or reassuring patients as needed.
  • Measure visual, auditory, or somatosensory evoked potentials (EPs) to determine responses to stimuli.
  • Indicate artifacts or interferences derived from sources outside of the brain, such as poor electrode contact or patient movement, on electro-neurodiagnostic recordings.
  • Set up, program, or record montages or electrical combinations when testing peripheral nerve, spinal cord, subcortical, or cortical responses.
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, or repair equipment and correct malfunctions as needed.
Other Functions
  • Participate in research projects, conferences, or technical meetings.
  • Assist in training technicians, medical students, residents, or other staff members.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent required with a certification from an approved program of the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs preferred.
  • Associate degree in an accredited electro-neurodiagnostic (END) educational program preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum of two years as a neuro-diagnostician preferred.
Licenses / Certifications
  • Neurodiagnostic Technologist Certification by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic & Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) preferred.
Knowledge / Skills
  • Must have excellent computer skills and be able to
  • Must be able to work independently in a multifaceted environment with limited supervision.
  • Ability to work with all levels of providers.
Physical Requirements

Light Physical Agility Test (PAT) Rating: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; frequently to use hands, fingers, and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert up to 15 pounds of force occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time), and/or up to 5 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
