Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital

Pursue your passion for caring with Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital in Mooresville, North Carolina. The smallest of Duke Health's four hospitals at 123 beds, it offers a comprehensive range of medical services, including 24-hour emergency care, cardiology, orthopedics, women's services, and surgical specialties.

Summary

Perform routine and complex procedures to obtain data for use in the diagnosis of clinical disorders of the nervous system in at least one of the following modalities of Neurodiagnostics: Electroencephalography (EEG), Evoked Potentials (EP), Epilepsy Monitoring (CLTM).

Work Performed

Level 1 guidelines:

  • Perform one of the following END studies: EEG or Evoked Potentials.
  • Explain testing procedures to patients and families using age-appropriate communication.
  • Accurately take and document pertinent patient history from the patient or chart.
  • Set up patients for studies, including paperwork, room, and equipment preparation.
  • Run studies with proper documentation, observe patients, troubleshoot equipment and artifacts, and distinguish normal from abnormal findings.
  • Respond appropriately to evolving patient care needs.
  • Follow proper cleaning procedures after each study.
  • Utilize downtime for training, cleaning, and reading educational materials.
  • Apply knowledge to different testing situations, participate in on-call schedules, and work independently on various shifts.
  • Perform maintenance on equipment and communicate issues appropriately.

Level 2 and 3 duties expand on these, including performing multiple modalities, maintaining registries, troubleshooting independently, developing standards, and processing charges.

Education:

  • Associate's degree in neurodiagnostic technology or related field strongly preferred; Bachelor's degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Level 1: No experience required with appropriate degrees; specific experience requirements vary by degree.
  • Level 2: Two years in Neurodiagnostic Technology required.
  • Level 3: Five years in Neurodiagnostic Technology required.

Certifications:

  • Level 1: Competency and/or registry/certification preferred.
  • Level 2: Competency in two modalities and registry in one required.
  • Level 3: Competency in three modalities and registry in one required; two registries/certifications preferred.
