Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Illinois is seeking a Neurodiagnostic Technician specialized in electroencephalography (EEG). The role requires applying electrodes, performing EEGs, and preparing patients. You will collect histories and explain procedures, ensuring tests meet laboratory standards.

Some modalities like intraoperative monitoring or EMG may be performed under supervision. Licensure in ABRET EEG tech and BLS certification are expected within set timeframes.

Schedule Details/Additional Information: x3 12 hrs various shifts

Pay Range: $26.55 - $39.85

$5,000 SIGN-ON BONUS! (Paid half at 90 days and half at 1 years in the role)

Major Responsibilities:

• Performs and maintains competency in electroencephalograms, portable inpatient EEG's by applying suitable electrodes on predetermined positions on the patient's head, checking the performance of the electrodes, calibrating and adjusting the test apparatus and selecting both predetermined and special electrode combinations dependent on the individual case under study.
• Prepares patient for exam and performs exams and procedures. Gathers a comprehensive patient history, appropriate information from patient, patient's records and family members to include neurological symptomatology and medications. Explains test procedures to patient and family members.
• Performs procedures according to the laboratory standards and implements alternative methods and/or adjusts controls to obtain optimal recordings. This may include appropriate control setting changes on the equipment, use of extra electrodes, extra montages and use of activation procedures.
• Recognizes patient or environmental artifact. Documents, eliminates or takes proper measure to monitor the artifact.
• Devises and standardizes neurodiagnostic tests for clinic use.
• May perform Intraoperative Monitoring with supervision.
• May perform ambulatory EEG monitoring, EEG monitoring during intracarotid Sodium Amytal procedures (WADAS), Epilepsy Monitoring Units (EMUs), Evoke Potentials and other modalities of testing based on site specific needs.
• May assist physicians in outpatient department clinics with Nerve Conduction Studies and EMGs based on site specific needs.
• Performs Cerebral Death Evaluation studies.
• May perform TCD (transcranial ultra sound of the Circle of Willis) based on site specific needs.
• Troubleshoots equipment problems and repairs or reports to supervisor immediately.
• Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

• Electroencephalographic Technologist registration (R EEG T) issued by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET) needs to be obtained within 1 year, and Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.

Education Required:

• High School Graduate.

Experience Required:

• Typically requires 2 years of experience in a Neurodiagnostic Tech role.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

• Excellent interpersonal and patient service skills.
• Intermediate computer skills.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
• Position requires travel. May be exposed to road and weather hazards.
• Must sit, stand, walk, twist, and lift throughout the workday.
• Must be able to: lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist. lift up to 20 lbs. over the head. carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
• Must be able to: push/pull with 30 lbs. of force. perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
• Work environment may contain potential for exposure to blood and body fluids or other unpleasant fumes or hazards and, therefore, must have ability to work in that type of environment and wear protective clothing as necessary.
• Exposed to normal office environment.
