Job summary

The Neurodiagnostic Tech II at UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill performs standard and complex electroneurodiagnostic tests in the Clinical Neurophysiology Lab. Work may be in a lab, clinic, patient bedside, or in the operating room.

The role includes instructing other technologists, performing EEG/EMG/NCV/EP tests, setting up rooms and equipment, calibrating devices, reading tests, and taking patient histories with test preparation and follow-up.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an acceptable program of Neurophysiology.
• High School Diploma if no Neurophysiology program and two years of Neurodiagnostics experience.
• Must hold EEG/EP/CNIM certifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform standard and complex neurodiagnostic tests (EEG, EMG, NCV, EP).
• Set up and maintain room and equipment; calibrate devices.
• Read and interpret neurodiagnostic tests.
• Take patient histories and guide test preparation and follow-up.

Summary: The Neurodiagnostic Techno II performs standard and complex electroneurodiagnostic tests in the Clinical Neurophysiology Lab. Work may be performed in a lab, clinic, patient bedside, or in the operating room.

• May provide instruction and guidance to other technologists in the Neurodiagnostic.
• Performs diagnostic patient testing electroencephalogram (EEG), electromyography (EMG), nerve conduction velocities (NCV), sensory evoked potentials (EP).
• Performs room and equipment set-up and placement in hospital rooms, operating rooms, or clinics. Calibrates and maintains equipment.
• Reads neurodiagnostic tests.
• Takes patient histories. Instruct patients and families on test preparation, pre-test interviews, and follow-up appointments

• Graduation from an acceptable program of Neurophysiology

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

• EEG (Electroencecephalogram- R. EEG T., CLTM)
• EP (Evoked Potentials-R. EP T.)
• Intra-Operative Monitoring (CNIM)
• Nerve Conduction Velocity studies (NCV)

Professional Experience Requirements:

• If completion of an acceptable program of Neurophysiology: No prior experience required.
• Requires High School Diploma if no graduation from an acceptable program of Neurophysiology and two (2) years of experience performing a variety of Neurodiagnostics procedures.
