Job summary

The Charleston VA Healthcare System seeks a highly motivated Medical Instrument Technician (EEG) to provide Neurophysiology Laboratory services in collaboration with physicians and to independently perform EEG and EMG procedures for evaluation and treatment of epilepsy and neurological disorders.

Responsibilities include operating EEG equipment, interpreting data, and contributing to patient care within the neurodiagnostic team.

Qualifications

  • Experience interpreting EEG data and evoked potentials to aid surgical decision-making.
  • Knowledge of brain anatomy, physiology and their relation to EEG findings.
  • Ability to assess seizure activity and ensure recording adequacy during discharges.
  • Proficiency operating EEG and related peripheral equipment (e.g., brain mapping, video EEG).
  • Understanding pharmacology of anticonvulsants and their EEG effects.
  • Capacity to adapt neurodiagnostic devices and procedures to complex clinical situations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform EEG and EMG procedures for evaluation and treatment of epilepsy and neurological disorders.
  • Operate EEG equipment and related devices to record brain activity and generate diagnostic data.
  • Collaborate with physicians and contribute to the Neurophysiology Laboratory’s services.
