Job summary

Cincinnati Children's in Cincinnati, OH seeks a Neurodiagnostic Assistant to support EEG testing in the Neurology department. You will hook patients to EEG equipment, ensure proper procedure, and maintain safety and infection control.

Part-time, rotating shifts with 12 hours per week, provide training for new staff and opportunities to pursue ABRET credentials. You will collaborate with EEG Technologists to collect quality data for physician interpretation.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required with completion of departmental training.
  • No directly related experience required.
  • BLS certification within 1 month of hire.
  • ABRET credentialing for R EEG T. within two years of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Hook patient to EEG equipment and start the study.
  • Perform neurodiagnostic testing procedures and maintain currency.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies; ensure safety and infection control.
  • Apply EEG electrodes per 10-20 system; document patient history.
  • Enter patient information into Epic and Natus; data management.
  • Assist EEG Technologists and help train new staff.

$22.18 - $27.73 *Starting pay is based on experience, skills, and equity; exceptions may apply for highly qualified candidates. Additional pay (e.g., shift, on‑call, or weekend differentials) and benefits may apply. Annual pay may vary based on FTE status.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Diagnostic Evaluations - Possesses the ability to independently and accurately hook a patient up to EEG equipment and start the study, ensuring network access.
  • Job Knowledge and Skills - Performs neurodiagnostic testing procedures. Maintains currency in field through continued education such as participation in credentialed courses and attending seminars. Understands and practices appropriate emergency-response actions and always ensures patient safety. Maintains knowledge of and adheres to basic infection control standards relating to patient and equipment. Can operate independently, utilize resources, and efficiently produce quality work. Training of new staff is within the scope of this position. Other duties as assigned.
  • Lab and Equipment Maintenance - Keeps equipment clean and in proper working order. Troubleshoots equipment problems, makes repairs or reports issues to leadership promptly. Maintains necessary supplies and equipment. Ensures that work areas are organized and present a safe, accessible, effective and efficient environment for employees, patients, and families.
  • EEG Acquisition - Measures, marks, and accurately apply, and removes electrodes in a responsible, efficient and caring manner, according to the international 10-20 system. Ensures that electrode impedances meet laboratory standards. Writes a comprehensive patient history. Explains test procedure to patient and family members. Possess the ability to independently perform routine, ICU and LTME studies on all patient populations including neonates, critical care patients, and patients with behavior difficulties, according to the laboratory's standards.
  • Documentation and Data Management - Accurately enter patient information into database. Can navigate Epic and Natus and utilize appropriate data. Capable of documentation in EEG record of events.
  • Neurodiagnostic Assistants assist EEG Technologists in gathering excellent data for physician interpretation. A Neurodiagnostic Assistant is an entry-level position.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of departmental training program and Core Curriculum established by ASET within 18 months of hire
  • No directly related experience
  • Must obtain BLS Certification within 1 month of hire and maintain BLS Certification
  • Neurodiagnostic Assistants must successfully obtain the ABRET (American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic and Evoked Potential Technologists) credentialing for Registered EEG Technologist (R. EEG T.) within two years of hire into this position and it must be maintained moving forward
