The mission of the Saint Louis University Neurocritical Care Fellowship Program is to provide a supportive yet challenging environment for trainees from multidisciplinary backgrounds to gain competency in the specialized care of critically ill neurology and neurosurgery patients. Our comprehensive education extends beyond neurology and neurosurgery, incorporating core principles of medical and surgical critical care to address the full spectrum of issues arising in critically ill neurological patients. As a clinically active program situated within a Level One Trauma Center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, and Level Four Epilepsy Center, fellows will gain experience in managing a diverse and high-acuity patient population. This includes providing care to a large inner-city population, enabling fellows to hone their skills in a demanding clinical setting. Our program emphasizes excellence in clinical care, with a commitment to advancing clinical and translational research, supporting the education of residents and students, and developing leadership in intensive care unit management. Fellows will learn to work professionally and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care. Aligned with the broader mission of the Saint Louis University School of Medicine, our fellowship program strives for excellence in education, research, clinical care, and the improvement of community health. We achieve this by delivering evidence-based, compassionate care in the NeuroICU, while also providing holistic support to the families of our patients, respecting their cultural and religious beliefs within our diverse population.
