Job summary

University of Michigan Health-Sparrow in Lansing, MI is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for the Neuro ICU unit. The RN provides professional nursing services guided by the Transformation Model for patient care.

Responsibilities include coordinating patient care, developing plans, educating families, participating in quality improvement, and mentoring staff. Required licensure, BSN preferred, and CPR/AHA-BLS within 60 days.

Qualifications

• Current Michigan license as a Registered Nurse.
• Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association within 60 days of hire.
• Clinical knowledge and critical thinking skills necessary to deliver quality patient care.
• Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university.
• BSN preferred.
• Interpersonal skills for effective communication.
• Computer literate.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate clinical patient activities in the absence of Department Manager or Assistant Department Manager.
• Participate in shared decision making.
• Assess patient condition and initiate appropriate nursing and/or medical care.
• Develop and update an individualized plan of care based on assessment.
• Educate patient/family using a mutual participation model.
• Participate in quality improvement activities within department/health system.
• Perform nursing activities per hospital policies and ANA standards.
• Delegate, direct and supervise implementation of care plan to LPN, PCT, or other health care workers.
• Communicate significant information and changes in patient condition to health care team.
• Provide a safe environment for patient, family and caregivers.
• Mentor and support development of staff and students.
• Utilize current evidence and research in practice.
• Collaborate with health care team.
• Demonstrate knowledge of unit equipment and supplies.
