Job summary

Pramaana Labs, a frontier AI lab headquartered in Palo Alto, seeks a Research Engineer to build systems that turn complex knowledge into formal representations and use them to reason and prove.

You will own a focused workstream, collaborate with researchers and formal methods engineers, and contribute across the research stack—from prototyping to scalable production—to improve correctness, coverage, latency, and cost.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering fundamentals and hands-on experience building large-scale ML systems.
• Experience training or post-training large foundation models, including distributed training and reinforcement learning.
• Deep proficiency in Python and modern ML frameworks such as PyTorch, JAX, and DeepSpeed.
• Experience building agentic AI systems with tool use and multi-step reasoning.
• Familiarity with post-training techniques including supervised fine-tuning, reinforcement learning, data generation, and reasoning-focused training.
• Strong research and experimental judgment with benchmarks, ablations, and failure analysis.
• Ability to operate independently at the intersection of research and engineering, prototyping ideas and scaling experiments.

Responsibilities

• Build next-generation neuro-symbolic AI systems at the intersection of foundation models, formal methods, automated reasoning, and verification.
• Design rigorous evaluation frameworks and benchmarks to study reasoning, generalization, robustness, and efficiency.
• Develop post-training and data synthesis pipelines, exploring synthetic data and model self-improvement.
• Research and implement knowledge representation, compositional reasoning, program synthesis, and constraint-based inference.
• Drive end-to-end research and engineering from prototyping to scalable production.
