American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for a Neuro ICU in Phoenix, AZ. The role requires Level 1 trauma experience, EVD monitoring, and proficiency with ICP assessments. The nurse will work 12-hour days in a 32-bed ICU with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio and float to telemetry units.

Applicants must have a current AZ RN license, 2+ years ICU experience, BLS/ACLS, and travel RN experience. Housing stipends and per diem benefits accompany the travel assignment;

Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro ICU position requiring Level 1 trauma experience and proficiency with EVD monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Position is in a 32-bed Neuro ICU within an acute care hospital setting
• Typical patient population includes neurological critical care cases such as cranial surgeries, brain tumor removals, ablations, brain biopsies, and complex spine surgeries
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2 in the ICU and 1:4 when floating to telemetry units
• Use of Phillips monitors for telemetry and Cerner as the EMR
• 12-hour day shifts (7am-7pm), with 4 total weekend shifts every 4 weeks and required coverage for 2 out of 4 major holidays
• Floating required to all ICU floors and telemetry units; travelers are first to float
• Required to complete a SIMs Lab for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes during orientation
• Candidates must not have been employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility in the past year
• A charge nurse is present at all times but does not take patients
• Team support includes 24/7 respiratory therapy and pharmacy services
• Scrub color for neuro floors is steel grey (other non-offensive colors or prints accepted elsewhere)
• Holiday coverage is built into the core staff rotation
• A pass/fail sterile technique skills check (Foley and central line dressing) is required on day one of orientation
• Men must be clean-shaven for fit testing and all staff must have natural hair color with no facial piercings
• SIMs Lab focuses on sterile technique, with frequent skills evaluations for Foley catheter and central line dressing changes

Requirements

• Active AZ or compact RN license, current at the time of consideration
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience in a facility with 450+ beds
• Documented experience in a Level 1 Trauma setting
• Must have previous travel RN experience (at least 3-6 months); first-time travelers will not be considered
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications are required
• Experience with EVD (external ventricular drain) monitoring is required
• Proficiency with ICP monitoring and strong neuro assessment skills
• Completion and passing of a Dysrhythmia (DYS) exam prior to offer
• Driver’s license must be submitted for 50-mile radius compliance
