Job summary

Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC, is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the Neuro ICU Advanced Practice Team. The role delivers direct patient care for critically ill adults in a high-acuity Neuro ICU, working under supervision with the Neuro ICU teams.

The position requires NP or PA credentialing, critical care experience, and collaboration across disciplines. 12- or 24-hour rotating shifts, 24/7 coverage, and involvement in teaching, research, and guideline

Qualifications

• Graduate nursing program (MSN or DNP) for Adult Acute Care NP or PA program completion.
• PA: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s or Doctoral degree preferred.
• Critical Care Fellowship training is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care for Neuro ICU patients under supervision.
• Perform rounds with attending physician to assess and plan treatment.
• Collaborate with residents and fellows on treatment plans.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests and labs; manage medications and devices.
• Coordinate patient discharge planning and family education.
• Lead quality improvement and participate in research activities.
