Job Title : Neuro-Rehabilitation Specialist

Job Class : Non-Exempt

Job Reports To : Director Neuro-Behavioral Program

General Statement of Job Function: Provides behavioral management, personal care, teaches therapeutic groups, and intervenes with residents while promoting a safe environment.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Anyone found guilty by court of law of abusing, neglecting, or mistreating individuals is ineligible for employment.
  • Employee will not consume or be under the influence of alcohol or other controlled substances.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.
  • Related experience highly preferred.
  • Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with team members and residents.
  • Ability to interact with individuals under physical and/or emotional stress. Works well in team and group settings.
  • Must be able to perform proper safety care and behavior management techniques.

Position Summary :

Under supervision of the Program Director or designee, participates as a member of the mental health team in a behavioral facility. Provides direct resident care including treatment planning, implementation, evaluation, discharge planning, therapeutic programming, teaching groups, guiding CNAs, and other duties. Serves as a teacher to residents and staff. Oversees behavior management tasks.

Job Functions, Responsibilities, and Duties :

  • Apply population-specific knowledge (subacute, dementia, TBI, mental illness, other comorbidities) to daily resident care.
  • Participate in care plan and family meetings as needed.
  • Basic math skills and proficiency in English are required; other languages are helpful.
  • Maintain flexibility, integrity, and effective working relationships with residents, staff, and support agencies.
  • Work effectively with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, or hostile individuals.
  • Physical ability to sit, stand, bend, lift (up to 50 pounds), and move intermittently.
  • Promote respect for residents, staff, and community rights and dignity.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrate honesty and respect with resident and facility property.
  • Participate actively in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Apply infection control, fire, and disaster policies, including proper PPE use.
  • Relate information about residents’ conditions clearly.
  • Ensure safety and avoid posing threats to health or safety.
  • Participate in continuing education and annual in-service training.
  • Maintain communication with residents, families, and support departments for effective planning.
  • Guide and support staff in a teaching capacity.
  • Make independent judgments when necessary.
  • Possess leadership and supervisory abilities; work harmoniously with staff.
  • Plan, organize, develop, and implement programs and policies for quality care.
  • Display patience, tact, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude, especially with difficult residents.
  • Be open to learning new methods and integrating them into practice.

Work Environment : Includes walking, standing, lifting (up to 50 pounds), and carrying items up to 100 yards. Frequent bending, pulling, reaching, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and stooping. May care for residents over 200 pounds and be exposed to blood, body fluids, airborne pathogens, chemicals, infectious waste, and diseases like TB, HIV, and Hepatitis B. Full sensory function required. May involve work beyond regular hours, including weekends and holidays, and exposure to hazards like falls, burns, odors, and infectious materials.
