Job summary

LaunchTech, LLC is seeking a Network Virtualization Engineer/Administrator to support the Missile Defense Agency on the IRES contract. The role emphasizes VMware NSX, vSphere, and vSAN, with leadership responsibilities and DoD clearance requirements.

The candidate will troubleshoot, document changes, and coordinate with a cross-functional team of system administrators, network engineers, and cybersecurity professionals to ensure compliant, high-quality operations in a government environment.

Qualifications

  • Must have 10+ years of general (full-time) work experience
  • Must have 5+ years of directly related experience (Network/Virtualization)
  • Must have 1+ years in a management or leadership role
  • Must have experience with Internet Protocols, Firewall configuration and troubleshooting
  • Must be an effective communicator with writing and presentation skills using PowerPoint and Visio
  • Must work collaboratively with a team and independently on large field projects
  • Deep understanding of vCF Infrastructure including vSphere, NSX and vSAN
  • Must use SDDC Manager to patch, upgrade and maintain systems
  • Fundamental understanding of traffic flow through logical routers in NSX
  • Configure distributed stateful firewalling, NAT, load balancing and micro-segmentation using NSX
  • Experience with storage via VMware vSAN (design, install, upgrade, migrate)
  • Migrate VMs/workloads to VMware Cloud Foundation
  • Current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification or higher

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and configure VMware; manage switching and connectivity
  • Perform VMware admin activities with minimal supervision
  • Provide root-cause analysis for recurring or critical problems
  • Collaborate with admins, engineers, and cybersecurity to maintain test environments

Location: Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO
Clearance Required: Active DoD Secret Security Clearance or higher
Travel Required: Up to 10% of the time. Occasional local travel may be required to support off-site customers and projects.

We are seeking a Network Virtualization Engineer/Administrator to support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) on the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract.

What You'll Be Doing

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a strong understanding of troubleshooting and configuration of VMware to include protocols and switching, best-practice configurations, connectivity, and networking concepts.
  • Expect to work on complex assignments and perform a wide range of VMware system administration activities with little to no direct supervision.
  • Provide root-cause analysis for recurring or critical problems.
  • Work closely with a team of system administrators, network engineers, and cybersecurity administrators to maintain a high-quality test environment for the Government customer.
  • Perform vulnerability remediation and mitigations to reduce cybersecurity risks and ensure DoD compliance.
  • Conduct daily system monitoring, system backup and restoral, and application upgrades to ensure optimal and continuous system operations.
  • Document necessary system changes and actions in appropriate systems of record to ensure historical data is captured per customer and mission requirements.
  • Advise Government customer on system status, optimization and improvement efforts in accordance with program objectives and design baselines as needed.
  • Assist system administration team with the deployment of new virtual machines.
  • Perform administration of virtualization environments to include troubleshooting, break/fix activities, the patching and remediation of servers, and system audit log reviews as needed.
  • Have good written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated experience briefing customers and management.

Core duty hours are 0900-1500 hours with flexibility to arrive earlier/later Monday-Friday. Occasional off shift, extended or weekend support may be required.

What You Bring

Basic Requirements:

  • Must have 10, or more, years of general (full-time) work experience
    • May be reduced with completion of advanced education
  • Must have 5, or more, years of directly related experience (can be a mix of Network and Virtualization)
  • Must have 1, or more, years of experience working in a management or leadership role
  • Must have experience in Internet Protocols (e.g. DNS, HTTP, SMTP, SSL); Firewall configuration and troubleshooting; Multiple network types of telecommunications infrastructures.
  • Must be an effective communicator with excellent writing and presentation skills using Microsoft PowerPoint and Visio drawing tools.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment with other highly motivated network engineers as well as independently on large field projects.
  • Deep understanding of Foundational VCF Infrastructure including Virtualization (vSphere), Networking (NSX) and Storage (vSAN)
  • Must be able to use SDDC Manager to patch, upgrade and provide overall system maintenance.
  • Fundamental understanding of how traffic flows through logical routers with the ability to implement these concepts in an NSX environment.
  • Must be able to configure distributed stateful firewalling, NAT, load balancing and micro segmentation using NSX.
  • Must have experience with the design, installation, upgrading and migration of storage using VMware vSAN.
  • Must be able to migrate virtual machines and workloads from deprecated versions of vSphere to VMware Cloud Foundation.
  • Must have a current DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (Security+ CE, CySA, etc.) or higher

Desired Requirements:

  • Have a demonstrated understanding of the project management lifecycle and related processes.
  • Have experience with PIM, L2 and L3 multicast and type I encryption devices
  • Have experience with VXLAN, Juniper Apstra, VMWare Aria and RHEL Ansible
  • Have experience with HPE server products
  • Have experience creating and configuring virtual distributed switches.
  • Have a VMware Certified Technical Associate - Data Center Virtualization (VCTA), VMware Certified Professional - Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV), VCAP Design, VCAP Deploy or VCDX-DCV Certification
  • Have knowledge of Missile Defense, DoD communications systems and MDIOC operations.
  • Have a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Juniper Networks Certified Associate (JNCIA) certification
  • Have experience with Python or Powershell programming and scripting.
  • Have a degree in an IT or Engineering related discipline
