Job Description

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is a district on the rise, serving over 320,000 students in 500+ schools and employing over 44,000 people, most of them teachers. CPS has set ambitious goals to ensure that every student, in every school and every neighborhood, has access to a world‑class learning experience that prepares each for success in college, career, and civic life. In order to fulfill this mission, we make three commitments to our students, their families, and all Chicagoans: academic progress, financial stability, and integrity. Six core values are embedded within these commitments – student-centered, whole child, equity, academic excellence, community partnership, and continuous learning.

The Office of Information and Technology Services (ITS) works to build the capacity of schools to use information and technology, maintain network infrastructure, security standards, and support other departments to meet district goals. ITS provides innovative technology solutions that improve the quality of education for students, reduce the administrative burden on educators, facilitate parent interaction, increase community engagement, and support CPS’ mission of transparency by focusing on the ease and equity of access to information.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of ITS School Technology Support Shared Services, the Network Technology Coordinator (TechCo) is a dynamic, highly mobile technical expert responsible for technology support functions for schools without a dedicated Technology Coordinator or Computer Technician. The Network TechCo will deliver timely on‑site and remote technical support, prioritizing urgent and high‑impact requests, minimizing disruption to education and optimizing technology performance. Frequent travel between schools is required for on‑site support.

Shared Services Model

The Network TechCo will work under a Shared Services model where they will be assigned to a set of schools by Geographic Network Regions. This ITS Shared Services model creates a unified and efficient technology support system for schools. This approach strengthens CPS's capacity to deliver effective and consistent technology services to schools that do not have a dedicated TechCo.

Responsibilities
Device Management and Asset Compliance
  • Collaborate with School Administrators to implement best practices around managing school devices and technology, ensuring compliance with security and acceptable use protocols.
  • Support assigned schools with the annual CPS Asset & Physical Inventory Audit.
  • Assist assigned schools with Jamf Pro to manage the school’s Apple devices.
  • Ensure device software compliance across all device platforms (Windows, Chromebooks, Apple), to include compliance for Assessment Readiness.
  • Coordinate with applicable ITS teams to conduct routine hardware assessments to ensure devices are kept in good working order.
Network and System Maintenance Support

Technical Assistance to School Staff and Students

  • Troubleshoot hardware, software and network issues for staff and students based on tickets submitted by school users via the District’s ticketing system (i.e., ServiceNow).
  • Install, configure, and maintain hardware, software, and network equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Assist with technology equipment moves within the school, as needed, related to CPS school construction projects.
Technical Training and Support
  • Conduct training sessions for school staff and students on various technologies; integrate new tools into daily operations and curriculum; and provide ongoing support.
  • Support the ITS Student Tech Crew program.
Communication and Collaboration
  • Communicate proactively with school administrators and their designees.
  • Collaborate with other ITS staff and vendor teams who also provide virtual and on‑site support to schools.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely records of support requests, resolutions, and travel in the District’s Ticketing System (i.e., ServiceNow).
  • Participate in team meetings.
