Job summary

The position requires 5–7 years in systems engineering or related IT roles, with experience in enterprise firewalls, DNS/DHCP, and cloud networking.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise firewalls and routing/switching.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN technologies, and wireless networking.

Responsibilities

** Job Summary:**


The Systems Engineer I – Networking is a mid-level position within EdFed Credit Union’s IT Infrastructure Team, with a primary specialty in enterprise network design, operations, and security. This role is responsible for maintaining the credit union’s LAN/WAN, firewall, wireless, and VPN infrastructure across all locations while contributing equally to shared team responsibilities spanning servers, cloud services, endpoint management, unified communications, and security. The position is structured as a 50/50 split between networking specialty duties and shared IT Infrastructure Team responsibilities, ensuring cross-functional coverage and operational resilience across all infrastructure domains.


** Duties & Responsibilities:**



  • Design, implement, and maintain LAN/WAN infrastructure, including switches, routers, wireless systems, VLANs, routing, subnetting, and IP address management.

  • Configure and manage firewalls, VPN tunnels, NAT policies, IDS/IPS, and Zero Trust network segmentation.

  • Monitor network performance, troubleshoot outages and latency issues, and conduct wireless site surveys and optimization.

  • Manage site to site and remote access VPN solutions and support SD WAN connectivity and redundancy.

  • Maintain NAC/802.1X policies, perform firewall rule reviews, and support compliance audits (NCUA, FFIEC, GLBA).

  • Collaborate with security teams on threat detection, vulnerability remediation, and incident response.

  • Lead network infrastructure projects including branch upgrades, circuit migrations, wireless refreshes, and SD WAN initiatives.

  • Manage ISP and telecom vendor relationships, coordinate circuit installations, and enforce SLAs.

  • Develop network automation for configuration backups, provisioning, and compliance reporting.

  • Support cloud networking including Azure Virtual Networks, VPN Gateway, ExpressRoute, and NSGs.

  • Maintain detailed network documentation including topology diagrams, IP schemes, firewall matrices, and change logs.

  • Provide support for Windows Server environments including AD, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.

  • Assist with Hyper V administration, VM provisioning, storage connectivity, and backup operations.

  • Participate in disaster recovery testing and support Microsoft 365 and Azure networking components.

  • Administer RingCentral UCaaS including provisioning, call routing, IVR, and device support.

  • Troubleshoot voice quality, connectivity, and integration issues across all locations.

  • Perform security patching across network devices, servers, and infrastructure.

  • Assist with vulnerability scanning, endpoint monitoring, access control reviews, and audit evidence collection.

  • Participate in security incident response activities and tabletop exercises.

  • Serve as a Tier 2/3 escalation point for complex infrastructure issues.

  • Use IT ticketing systems to document and resolve incidents and service requests.

  • Monitor systems and networks to proactively address alerts and performance issues.

  • Use AI powered tools to streamline workflows and improve operational efficiency.

  • Participate in change management, after hours maintenance, on call rotation, and cross functional projects.

  • Maintain infrastructure documentation and contribute to team knowledge sharing and cross training.

  • Assist with other duties and projects as assigned by management.


** Requirements:**



  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination

  • 5-7 years of systems engineer, M365 administration, cloud operations, or a related IT role


** Job Qualifications & Specifications:**



  • Hands-on experience with enterprise firewalls (Palo Alto, Fortinet, or equivalent), managed switches, and routing/switching protocols.

  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, VLANs, subnetting, DNS, DHCP, VPN technologies, 802.1X, and wireless networking.

  • Working knowledge of Zero Trust networking concepts and network segmentation strategies.

  • Experience with network monitoring and diagnostic tools (e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG, Wireshark, or equivalent).

  • Working knowledge of Windows Server administration, Active Directory, and Group Policy.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 services and basic Azure networking concepts (VNets, NSGs, VPN Gateway).

  • Experience with network scripting and automation for configuration management and reporting.

  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, documentation, and communication skills.

  • Ability to participate in on-call rotation and after-hours maintenance as needed.
