Job summary

Optimum in Bethpage, NY is seeking a Network IP Engineer with a reliability mindset to join our Core Network team. This mid-level, hands-on role focuses on supporting and expanding our IP backbone and cloud infrastructure across on‑prem and Google Cloud Platform.

You will automate deployments with Python, Ansible, and Terraform, maintain hardware (Juniper, Arista, Cisco) and cloud resources, and ensure observability with Grafana and Cloud Monitoring.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with Juniper Junos and Arista EOS alongside cloud networking in GCP (VPCs, firewalls, routing).
• Deep understanding of TCP/IP, subnetting, and core routing protocols (BGP, OSPF).
• Ability to trace packets using CLI tools or VPC Flow Logs to identify issues.
• Comfortable in a Linux shell environment.

Responsibilities

• Core & Cloud Engineering: Configure, deploy, and troubleshoot IP core and cloud infra (Juniper, Arista, Cisco; GCP).
• Incident Response: Act as first line of defense for complex network issues; investigate routing anomalies and latency.
• Reliability & Automation: Build and run Python scripts, Ansible playbooks, and Terraform configurations to automate deployments.
• Observability: Tune monitoring tools (Grafana, NMS) and use Cloud Monitoring/Logging to detect issues early.
• Maintenance: Plan firmware upgrades, hardware replacements, and migrations with minimal downtime.
