Role Description

The Network Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in San Juan, responsible for maintaining, monitoring, and optimizing network infrastructure across client environments with a strong focus on the Fortinet ecosystem. This role includes daily tasks such as configuring, deploying, and managing Fortinet devices—including FortiGate Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFW), FortiSwitch, FortiAP, and centralized management platforms (FortiManager / FortiAnalyzer)—to ensure the peak performance, availability, and security of LAN/WAN, SD-WAN, and wireless networks.

The position also involves documenting network topology and security policies, collaborating closely with cybersecurity and support teams, and providing technical support and guidance to internal stakeholders and customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Centralized Operations: Utilize FortiManager for policy orchestrations and change management, and FortiAnalyzer for centralized log analysis, threat intelligence, and compliance reporting.
  • Network Security & Access Control: Implement FortiOS security profiles (AV, IPS, Web Filtering, SSL Inspection), configure IPsec/SSL VPNs, construct firewall policy sets, and manage Network Access Control (NAC) / dynamic VLAN assignments via FortiLink.
  • SD-WAN & Routing: Configure and optimize Fortinet SD-WAN rules, dynamic routing protocols (OSPF, BGP), and WAN failover policies for multi-site enterprise environments.
  • Troubleshooting & Optimization: Perform deep-packet analysis, diagnose connectivity and latency bottlenecks, and resolve complex layer 2/3 and security issues using FortiOS CLI and diagnostic utilities.
  • Documentation & Support: Maintain detailed network diagrams (Visio/Lucidchart), IP schemes, and firewall rule documentation while delivering high-touch technical support to clients.

Qualifications

  • Networking & Administration: Demonstrated expertise in managing enterprise network environments, with deep knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, trunking, STP, dynamic routing (OSPF, BGP), and Wi-Fi architectures.
  • Fortinet / Network Security Expertise: Proven hands-on experience configuring and administering FortiGate firewalls, FortiOS features, security policies, IPsec/SSL VPN tunnels, and threat prevention features.
  • Troubleshooting: Strong analytical skills utilizing tools like Wireshark, FortiOS CLI (diagnose debug, execute ping/traceroute), and FortiAnalyzer logs to rapidly resolve network and security incidents.
  • Network Design & Deployment: Experience assisting in the planning, staging, and deployment of scalable, highly available Fortinet topologies (HA clusters, FortiLink switching, unified wireless management).
  • Certifications (Preferred):
  • Fortinet Certified Professional (FCP) in Network Security or Fortinet Certified Solution Specialist (FCSS) (formerly NSE 4 / NSE 5 / NSE 6).
  • Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent industry certifications are a plus.
