Job summary

The New York City Police Department is seeking a Senior IT Architect to lead enterprise network architecture and IT infrastructure efforts in a security-conscious environment. Based at 1 Police Plaza, you will design and implement scalable networks, DR/HA, and cloud/hybrid connectivity to support critical law enforcement operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, mathematics or related field.
  • Six or more years of experience in enterprise/network architecture and IT infrastructure.
  • Experience with cloud/hybrid networks, DR/HA, and Azure services.

Responsibilities

  • Design/Architect Network solutions for cloud and hybrid connectivity WAN/LAN, SD-WAN.
  • Set up DR and HA network environments and develop architecture diagrams.
  • Develop and install monitoring for network equipment and security components.
  • Collaborate across divisions to troubleshoot network issues with application owners.
  • Implement authentication, MFA and authorization using Azure AD and related services.
  • Plan data center/infrastructure lifecycles, virtualization, load balancing and performance tuning.
  • Ensure adherence to architecture standards across the development lifecycle.
  • Confirm compliance with agency standards and guidelines.

Job description

The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order.

The New York City Police Department strives to foster a safe and fair city through the strategic deployment of resources, focusing on both crime prevention and addressing quality-of-life concerns while building lasting community relationships.

The Information Technology Services Division oversees critical projects and technological initiatives within the NYPD. They maintain and enhance the department's IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, and workstations. Notably, ITSD has rolled out various advancements, such as equipping officers with cellular phones applications and digitizing department forms to improve efficiency.

Responsibilities
  • Design/Architect Network solutions for cloud and hybrid connectivity WAN/LAN, SD-WAN.
  • Set up Disaster Recovery (DR) and Highly Available (HA) Network environments and develop and maintain IT architecture diagrams of enterprise, business, data, security and/or technology architecture for IT solutions, concepts and strategies to meet business requirements for target audiences.
  • Develop and install monitoring applications for network equipment including, but not limited to, Network Switches, Firewalls using various off-the box monitoring tools.
  • Work across Sections and Divisions helping troubleshoot perceived network issues with application owners.
  • Implement authentication, MFA and authorization using Azure AD and related Azure Services.
  • Implement application Data Center and Infrastructure; hardware lifecycle planning, virtualization, network fabrics, load balancing, capacity and performance tuning.
  • Confirm adherence of applications, components and services to establish standards and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with architecture standards and guidelines throughout the application development life cycle.

SENIOR IT ARCHITECT - 95711

Minimum Qualifications
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in computer science, information systems, engineering, mathematics or related field and six years of satisfactory full-time experience related to enterprise architecture, solutions architecture, network architecture and/or IT infrastructure systems; or
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and ten years of satisfactory full-time experience related to enterprise architecture, solutions architecture, network architecture and/or IT infrastructure systems; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above.
Preferred Skills
  • The architect must create presentations, business logic, persistence layers, API integrations, microservices, performance and scalability engineering.
  • Researches and Recommends hardware and server requirements and work with clients to build application environments.
  • Ensure compliance with agency standards propose updates to agency standards in line with industry best practices.
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, organizational and analytical skills
