Job Description

1. Respond to and resolve WDM/DWDM, Packet Switches & MW network issues within the time frame of severity level agreements.
2. Troubleshoot and resolve 1st and 2nd level network-related problems.
3. Support all aspects of the network management process, ensuring requests, implementations, and problems are delivered without impacting global communications.
4. Deploy and document changes in accordance with the problem and change management processes.
5. Participate in managing projects introduced by the engineering team, ensuring full implementation and documentation standards are adhered to, and complete project objectives within timelines.
6. Implement effective strategies to restore, recover, or alter configurations, logical or physical, to maintain service integrity on the transport network.
7. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of Main One’s global and metro fiber network.
8. Carry out site surveys, plan new equipment (MW Radio, DWDM, Switches, etc.), and oversee installation of cabinets and towers.
9. Provide support for last-mile connections, including microwave radio technology deployment.
10. Support OSP build supervision on-site for fiber cable activities such as laying fibers, laying subducts, calibrations, testing, and fiber termination/splicing.
11. Assess test plans and perform tests to ensure cable and build integrity, providing periodic progress and status reports.
12. Perform network analyses using E-Analyzer, SDH Analyzer, OTDR, and other testing tools to ensure error-free network operation.
13. Report on capacity, inventory, and utilization of transmission and carrier equipment, providing detailed engineering documentation to support projects.

Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical/Electronics or Telecommunication Engineering.

Required Competencies:

• 1-2 years' experience in configuration, operations, and maintenance of optical fiber, SDH transmission equipment.
• Knowledge of microwave transmission and basic training in optical networks and SDH/OTN/WDM/DWDM/IP networks.
• Understanding of IP quality of service and network management concepts.
• Experience with SDH OTN in a telecom environment; ability to interpret topography, network design maps, and CAD designs.
• Proficiency with E-Analyser, OSA, OTDR, and other signal testing tools.
• Basic troubleshooting skills for Cisco and Ciena equipment L1 and L2 issues.
• Knowledge of OSPF, TCP/IP, enterprise Wireless, L2 technologies, and network security.
• Familiarity with Spanning Tree, VLANs, VTP, and Trunking protocols.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint.
• Strong team collaboration, multi-tasking, time management, and workload prioritization skills.
• Ability to coordinate with vendors and maintain composure in stressful situations.
