Job summary

Software Engineering Institute | Carnegie Mellon University is seeking a network security researcher to explore threats and develop detection methods. The role focuses on NetSA tool suite enhancements, collaboration with partner environments, and translating research into practical capabilities for security analytics.

You'll work on netflow, application metadata, and cloud telemetry, with travel to sponsor sites as needed and a background check/clearance requirement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a relevant technical discipline with three (3) years of relevant work experience; or a MS in Computer Science or a relevant technical discipline with one (1) year of relevant work experience; or a PhD in Computer Science or other relevant technical discipline.
  • Movement between buildings within the SEI and CMU community required.
  • Willingness to travel to various locations to support the SEI’s overall mission. This may include national travel to sponsor sites, conferences, and offsite meetings on occasion.

Responsibilities

  • Research network threats to develop methods of detection and tailor these for partner environments.
  • Transition of this research will take the form of developing detection capabilities and providing new requirements for NetSA Security tool suite.
  • Write publications and provide customer-specific training.
  • Work with partners to help them understand their data and research new data sources to expand the team’s expertise.
