Job summary

Carnegie Mellon University’s Network Situational Awareness team at the SEI in Arlington, VA conducts research to detect threats using netflow and metadata. You will help develop detection capabilities, specify new requirements for our NetSA tools, publish results, and train partners on data-driven security insights.

The role emphasizes translating threat intelligence into deployable capabilities, strong network knowledge, and coding skills across languages such as Python, Go, or Java.

Qualifications

  • Translate threat intelligence to research, prototyping and detection capabilities.
  • Strong knowledge of network fundamentals and telemetry.
  • Proficient in at least one scripting or programming language (Python, Go, Ruby, C, Java, or Scala).
  • Ability to document and communicate findings to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Research network threats and develop detection methods for partner environments.
  • Contribute requirements for NetSA Security tool suite and publish findings.
  • Provide customer-specific training and support data-driven insights from netflow and metadata.
