Job summary

Leonardo SpA is seeking a Network Security Engineer in the United States to design and secure network infrastructures for mission-critical environments. Leonardo Belgium is supporting EU Institutions, NATO, and international organizations in strengthening their cyber defence capabilities, improving resilience, and protecting critical systems against evolving cyber threats.

Within Leonardo Belgium, the EU CyberSec Regional Center serves as a center of cybersecurity expertise, delivering security services and solutions across complex and mission‑critical environments.

You will join a team of cybersecurity professionals working on the deployment, operation, and continuous improvement of security solutions supporting critical infrastructures and services.

This role is ideal for network engineers who enjoy designing and securing complex infrastructures, combining hands‑on technical work with architecture, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement activities across enterprise environments.

Job description

As a Network Security Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining secure network infrastructures while ensuring their performance, resilience, and security.

  • Design, deploy, and maintain secure LAN, WAN, WLAN, and VPN infrastructures
  • Configure, harden, and maintain enterprise network and security infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, NAC, IDS/IPS, and EDR solutions
  • Troubleshoot complex networking and connectivity issues
  • Drive the integration of network security controls and contribute to the transition towards hybrid and cloud environments
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation and network diagrams
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity architects, infrastructure engineers, and international stakeholders
  • Support junior colleagues by sharing technical knowledge and best practices
Profile

Experience / Education / Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related field would be appreciated, but alternative educational paths with proven experience will be considered as well
  • Several years of professional experience in network engineering with exposure to secure environments
  • Professional certifications in network security are highly desirable but not mandatory

Successful candidates would typically have

  • Knowledge of routing protocols, VLANs, Spanning Tree, and VPN technologies (IPsec, SSL)
  • Proven experience with the design and implementation of secure network infrastructure, intrusion prevention systems (IPS), and network security hardening
  • An analytical mindset with strong problem‑solving abilities in high‑pressure environmentsStrong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in international teams and communicate fluently in English
Nice to have
  • Experience with Network Automation (Python, Ansible)
  • Knowledge of Cloud Networking (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Previous exposure to EU Institutions, NATO, or other highly regulated environments
  • French, Dutch, and/or Italian language skills
