Job summary

Piper Companies is seeking a Network Operations Engineer to join a Service Delivery team supporting a key Service Provider account in a hybrid, on-site role based in New York. This is a highly technical, client-facing engineering position focused on post-sales support, network operations, and migration from Cisco to Juniper platforms.

You will lead design, troubleshooting, and implementation efforts across Juniper devices, supervise migrations, and train customer teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in service provider or enterprise network engineering.
• Hands-on experience with Juniper MX/EX/SSR and Mist platforms.
• Experience with Cisco migration strategies.
• Strong knowledge of MPLS, ISIS, Segment Routing, and IP-based services.
• Experience with SD-WAN, switching, and Wi-Fi.
• Excellent presentation and client-facing communication.
• Ability to work independently with a customer-first mindset and willingness to be on-site 2-3 days weekly in New York.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Juniper SME for the customer across MX304, EX switches, SSR routers, and Mist platforms.
• Lead operational and engineering efforts including troubleshooting, design support, and industrial engineering tasks.
• Provide technical guidance and training to customer teams, including implementation and support personnel.
• Facilitate weekly operations calls to review network health, JTAC case status, and ongoing issues.
• Proactively audit network configurations, alarms, and logs to identify risks and recommend improvements.
• Support migration efforts from Cisco to Juniper, leveraging deep knowledge of both ecosystems.
• Conduct design workshops and collaborate with customer stakeholders to shape sustainable network architectures.
• Test and validate new features, patches, and fixes in both lab and live environments.
• Assist with network inventory tracking and documentation of operating procedures.
• Raise and manage RMAs through resolution.
• Peer with other Resident Engineers to share lessons learned and best practices.

• Experience with SD-WAN, switching, and Wi‑Fi technologies.
• Proven ability to present in front of clients and lead technical discussions.
• Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and maintain a customer-first mindset.
• Willingness to work extended hours and be on‑site 2-3 times per week in New York.

Compensation for the Resident Network Engineer includes:

• Salary Range: $140,000 - $160,000
