Job summary

Iridium in Tempe, AZ is seeking a Network Control Specialist I to monitor gateway networks 24x7 and assist with remote maintenance and troubleshooting. This onsite role requires a bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience, and the candidate should be capable of handling multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.

You will work 4x10-hour overnight shifts after training, support equipment installation, and coordinate with senior staff and vendor support to restore services.

What We’re Looking For:

If you are experienced in Network Operations or IT Technical Support, then you will be excited about the opportunity to join our Gateway Technical Operations (GTO) team as a Network Control Specialist I. In this role, you’ll contribute to the 24x7x365 monitoring of Iridium Gateways and remote site equipment to ensure timely resolution of issues and outage notifications. You will thrive in this role if you have a keen desire to learn about technology, a high aptitude for retaining new and ever‑changing information, and enjoy working in a truly team‑centric and first‑responder type of culture.


What You’ll Do:


  • Contribute to the team that is responsible for monitoring and testing the Gateway network elements per written operational procedures

  • Assist with remote maintenance per written operational procedures, and execute operational and/or system/service performance checklists as outlined in written operational procedures

  • Support troubleshooting of customer trouble tickets per written operational procedures

  • Respond to Iridium alerts in a timely manner and initiate corrective actions to restore network services, and coordinate fault resolution with senior personnel and with vendor support

  • Help your team to perform equipment installation, cable runs and server room maintenance in compliance with Iridium’s Data Center Standards and Procedures policy

  • Escalate non‑standard events to on‑call Engineer and/or Management

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time by management


What You’ll Need to Succeed:


  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field of study (i.e., Computer Science, Engineering Technology, Information and Telecommunications Systems, etc.), preferably with a concentration in Telecommunications; OR equivalent, relevant experience in lieu of degree

  • A basic knowledge of network operations

  • A basic knowledge of Linux command line skills

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate key messages and ideas clearly and effectively

  • Can cultivate meaningful relationships with your manager and members of your team, while being open and responsive to constructive feedback as they guide and mentor you

  • The ability to think outside the box to help solve problems, with the humility to ask for help when needed

  • Adaptability to a dynamic environment and the readiness to take on any new tasks that are handed to you

  • A motivation to achieve outcomes and results

  • Capable of handling multiple tasks at once and completing them on time

  • An eagerness to develop professionally, continuously learn, and share knowledge with others


Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:


  • Previous experience working in a Network Operations Control (NOC) environment

  • Technical industry certification in Network+ or Linux (RedHat, CentOS etc.)


We’ll also need you to:


  • NOTE: This is an onsite role, where the expectation is that you perform all work in the office

  • NOTE: This position requires the selected candidate to work an overnight schedule of four 10‑hour shifts per week (4x10) upon completion of new hire training.

  • This position directly performs under, supports, or is exposed to a U.S. government contract. To comply with the requirements of that U.S. government contract, applicants for this position must be U.S. citizen

  • Be able to work in a 24x7x365 environment

  • Be able to lift up to 25 lbs


Work Environment:

This position primarily works in an office setting and is largely sedentary with the majority of the position working with a computer. The role typically requires the use of basic office equipment such as a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.

Base Pay Range: $55,000 - $75,000 USD


Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors and this range represents an estimate of compensation at the time of posting. Base salary is only one part of our compensation package for this role. You may also be eligible for company stock and annual bonus. Employee benefits also include medical, dental and vision insurance coverage; 401(k) retirement plan options; paid time off and paid holidays; paid parental leave; and other discounts and perks.
