Job summary

Cloudflare is seeking a Software Engineer, Network Firewall to work on features across Network Services, improving throughput and latency, and expanding scalability on one of the world's largest edge networks.

You'll collaborate with engineers and product managers to solve complex problems that matter to customers, deploying and operating systems across north-south and east-west traffic. This role offers the opportunity to impact performance at a global scale.

Qualifications

• Experience building and shipping large-scale, reliable, highly distributed systems.
• Systems-level programming experience; Go and/or Rust are valuable.
• Expertise in L3 and L4 networking protocols; L2 experience is valuable.
• Experience building high-performance network security products such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, DDoS mitigation, rate limiting, packet capture, or threat intelligence integrations.
• Experience with low-latency userspace packet processing; familiarity with Linux kernel networking primitives (netfilter, nftables, eBPF, tc, network namespaces).
• Experience designing and integrating RESTful APIs and backend systems.
• Experience with large-scale distributed data pipelines, from data structuring to querying to data analysis.
• Excellent debugging, profiling, and performance optimization skills for high-throughput, latency-sensitive systems.

Responsibilities

• Deliver new features, improve performance, and increase the scalability of Network Services products.
• Evolve the Network Firewall and related security capabilities across north-south and east-west architectures.
• Build, deploy, and operate your team’s systems on one of the world’s largest edge networks.
