Ascent Ready Talent Capital is seeking a network engineer for a hands-on consulting engagement in Wisconsin. You will own day-to-day tickets, handle repeatable project work, and partner with another contract engineer on the team.

The role emphasizes Cisco switching and routing, enterprise networking, ITIL familiarity, and remote access technologies. Travel regionally and participate in after-hours maintenance and documentation.

Qualifications

• Cisco switching and routing experience required.
• 7+ years in enterprise networking.

• Familiar with ITIL concepts.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel regionally.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshooting network and system issues end to end
• Configuring and supporting switches, routers, firewalls, wireless APs, and controllers
• Swapping out faulty hardware during remote troubleshooting
• Managing the ticket and request queue
• Site visits and documenting findings
• Maintaining disaster recovery setup
• Building and maintaining network diagrams and documentation
• Handling after-hours maintenance windows
• Participating in project work as needed

Job description

A financial services company needs a network engineer to keep the environment running while the rest of the team pushes on projects. Think utility player: you own the day-to-day tickets and requests, pick up the repeatable project work, and partner with another contract engineer already on the team.

This Consulting Engagement is slated through all of 2027 with year-long extensions common. There is a strong possibility of the workload keeps growing as result of the organization expanding, it would be likely converted to a permanent seat.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Troubleshooting network and system issues end to end
• Configuring and supporting switches, routers, firewalls, wireless APs, and controllers
• Swapping out faulty hardware when remote troubleshooting runs out of road
• Working the ticket and request queue — routing, switching, access, connectivity
• Running site visits and writing up what you found
• Keeping the disaster recovery setup healthy
• Building and maintaining network diagrams and documentation
• Handling maintenance work during after-hours windows when needed
• Jumping into project work as it comes up

Required Skills & Experience: Stand Out Skills & Experience:

• Cisco switching and routing. This is the one. It's the first thing the hiring manager named.
• 7+ years in enterprise networking — routing protocols, traffic flow, VLANs, subnet management
• Solid grounding in network security — planning and implementing the controls that protect data and hardware
• 3+ years with VMware & VPN and remote access technologies
• Direct experience working within ITIL, and/or demonstrated fundamental understanding of ITIL
• Valid driver's license in good standing and a reliable vehicle for occasional needs to travel within the region to work
