Job description

Network Engineer - Sr. Department of State

Position: Network Engineer (Program Task Lead) - DOS
Location: Hybrid Remote (Arlington, VA)
Security Clearance: Active Secret (TS preferred)
Certification: PMP required

Nationwide IT Services (NIS) seeks a qualified Network/Systems Engineer for a potential opportunity with the Department of State (DOS). The engineer will oversee all activities under the contract, serve as SME and Task Leader for O&M Network Support, and support NIS staff involved in that area.

The candidate will work directly with the Project Manager and support transition phases. Availability during standard business hours is expected.

Requirements include a minimum of ten (10) years of proven experience in managing programs and projects, along with a valid PMP certification.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with excellent time management and problem-solving skills, thriving in fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities:

  1. Design and develop – Foster and engineer software solutions from conception to deployment. Evaluate customer requirements, assess feasibility, restrictions, and future development. Test software independently, ensuring verification and quality assurance throughout.
  2. Coordinate and support – Oversee customer service activities, provide ongoing support and maintenance, and perform systems management and integration functions.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Active PMP certification from PMI during the contract period.
  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • At least 5 years hands-on experience with network hardware, software, operating systems, and related tools.
  • Experience in technical planning, system integration, and validation.
  • Design, install, and support LAN, WAN, VoIP, and video infrastructures.
  • Troubleshoot issues and develop solutions.
  • Configure and manage network security features.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and fault isolation.
  • Create and maintain systems diagrams and documentation.
  • Support data center operations and participate in special projects.
  • Collaborate with IT teams and stakeholders.
  • Design, develop, and maintain cloud-based systems and applications.
  • Evaluate cloud options, migrate systems, troubleshoot, and ensure security.
  • Engage with clients to understand needs and provide support.

Technical Skills:

  • Network infrastructure design, implementation, and support.
  • Experience with routers, switches, security devices, and management systems.
  • Understanding of network and application security.
  • Strong experience with Agile, SDLC, and development processes.

Desired Experience:

  • Two years of experience with the Department of State or similar.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field (preferred).
  • Knowledge of engineering tools, applications, and programming languages.
  • Security+ CE certification.
