Job summary

Johnson Controls Federal Systems seeks a Security Systems Network Engineer to support the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area. You will perform hardware/software engineering and network-level commissioning for federal security projects, with Cisco-based networks, VPNs, and building automation integration.

Qualifications include Cisco routing/switching, VPN design, and 5+ years in security systems. DoD Secret clearance preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform hardware/software engineering and network-level commissioning for Federal Security Projects.
• Develop and maintain monitoring tools, VPN, RSA, and network security solutions.
• Engineer, develop, and maintain LAN, VPN, VTC, and server hosting for applications/services.
• Configure and manage alerting/monitoring equipment (Cisco).
• Design and implement new VLANs, BVI, port channels, and advanced network components.
• Update diagrams and inventory for maintenance teams.
• Create drawings/packages including BOMs, network layouts, electrical requirements.
• Assist in loading/commissioning of system controllers and troubleshoot with subcontractors.
• Provide field change information for as-built drawings and software.
• Select controllers and end devices to meet project specs while controlling costs.
• Ensure reuse of proven designs and programs.
• Provide progress updates to management and customers.
• Support owner/operator training on total building control solutions.
• Participate in customer meetings and value engineering.

Job description

We are seeking a Security Systems Network Engineer to join our federal team primarily supporting the Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA area.

We help modernize U.S. military installations, Department of Defense and other federal agency facilities to be smarter, more resilient, efficient, sustainable, and secure.

Salary Range: $90,000 - $130,000 plus bonus. Negotiable based on experience

As a Security Systems Network Engineer, you will:

• Perform hardware engineering, software engineering and network level commissioning for Federal Security Projects
• Development, engineering, and maintaining monitoring tools, VPN, RSA, and network security solutions
• Responsible for engineering, developing, and maintaining LAN, VPN, VTC, and network security solutions in support of end-user computing needs as well as server hosting for a variety of applications and services.
• Configuration and management of alerting and monitoring equipment (primarily with Cisco)
• Configure and implement new VLANs, BVI, port channels, and other advanced network components
• Update diagrams and inventory information to support of maintenance and service teams at project sites
• Designs, estimates, and configures technically functional security systems, including large security head end systems. Creates drawing packages (technical data packages), sequence of operations, bill of material, network layouts and electrical requirements
• Coordinates and creates of necessary drawings and equipment schedules for submittals and installation
• Assists in the loading and commissioning of all system and network-level controllers as required. Assists in validation of complete system functionality and troubleshoots problems with subcontractors and other trades to ensure proper operation
• Provides field change information to the project team for the creation of as-built drawings and software
• Selects controllers, end devices, and other materials to meet project specification, and minimize the total cost of installation to ensure that the project cost comes in below estimate for assigned projects
• Ensures maximum reuse of proven designs and programs
• Keeps management and JCI contractor or customer informed of job progress and issues
• Assists in performing site-specific training for owner / operator on the total building control solution
• Participates in customer meetings with project team. Performs value engineering to provide cost effective results while maintaining customer satisfaction
• Adheres to safety standards. High degree of regard to employee and subcontractor safety

Required Qualifications:

• Experience with Network Engineering using Cisco products, preferably in support of large networks
• Cisco routing and switching design and configuration experience
• Experience designing, implementing, administering, and troubleshooting VPN solutions, preferably with Cisco based systems
• Demonstrated proficiency and experience working with commercial and/or industrial Electronic Security Systems (access controls, intrusion detection systems, CCTV/camera systems, etc), preferably with programming, configurations, and integrations. 5+ years experience preferred
• Proficiency and experience working with pre-sales engineering support (cost estimating, sales support, performing pre-design site surveys, designing control system, shop drawing submittals, generating product literature submittals, design packages and submittals, etc)
• Advanced computer skills, particularly with computer-related drafting tools
• Ability to relate technical knowledge to a non-technical audience.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain required security clearances for projects being supported (background/character, criminal history, employment, and credit checks). Active Department of Defense Secret (or higher) clearance preferred

Preferred Qualifications:

• Network strategic planning, solutions design, capacity planning, and oversight of large-scale multi-vendor network
• Demonstrated knowledge of a wide variety of Security Alarm building automation systems and other building subsystems. Proficiency with Genetech, Milestone, Lenel, and/or Softwarehouse C-cure 9000 strongly preferred

Preferred Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or an Associate's Degree in a related technical field
• CCNA or CCNP certification or higher
