Project Overview
The NetworkEngineer – Project Lead will provide daily network engineering operations andsupport for the University of South Carolina’s enterprise wired and wirelessnetwork infrastructure. The role includes monitoring, maintaining, configuring,troubleshooting, and supporting switching, routing, wireless networking,firewalls, VPNs, and network connectivity services. Responsibilities alsoinclude network equipment deployment, incident resolution, system upgrades andpatching, performance optimization, network security support, and maintainingtechnical documentation and network diagrams. The engineer will collaboratewith network, security, infrastructure teams, vendors, and stakeholders toensure reliable, secure, and highly available network services.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Monitor,maintain, and support enterprise wired and wireless networkinfrastructure, including switching, routing, and connectivity servicesacross campus environments to ensure availability, reliability, andperformance.
- Performfield installation and deployment of network equipment, includingconfiguring, racking, stacking, cabling, and testing switches.
- Diagnose,troubleshoot, and resolve network issues through monitoring, analysis, androot cause investigation.
- Investigateand resolve network incidents through remote analysis and field-basedtroubleshooting, including testing network equipment and validatingconfigurations.
- Coordinatenetwork repairs to maintain service availability and elevate complextechnical issues as appropriate.
- Participatein on-call support activities to ensure continuity and availability ofnetwork services.
- Performroutine network maintenance, including system upgrades, patching,configuration changes, and performance optimization.
- Minimizeservice interruptions during maintenance activities while adhering toestablished operational best practices.
- Maintainaccurate operational documentation, network diagrams, incident records,and runbooks.
- Collaboratewith network engineering and architecture, security, infrastructure teams,vendors, and stakeholders to support reliable technology services.
