Job summary

Booz Allen Hamilton is seeking a Network Engineer (Mid) to help develop, modernize, and sustain secure networks for defense operations.

You will work on routing and switching, encryption integration, and system interoperability to improve reliability, availability, and performance in mission‑critical environments.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience with network configuration, troubleshooting, or engineering support.
  • Experience with routing and switching technologies and Layer 2/3 network protocols.
  • Knowledge of network design, OSI concepts, transport layers, and interoperability.
  • Knowledge of cryptographic equipment, network security technologies, and firewall implementations.
  • Ability to perform Tier III troubleshooting of complex issues.
  • Ability to interpret network diagrams and engineering documentation.

Crafting the right network, with the right equipment and software, requires a combination of technical skill and careful planning. That’s why we need you, a network engineer who knows how to develop the exact network the DoD needs.

As a Network Engineer, you will help develop, modernize, and sustain secure and resilient network capabilities that support critical defense operations. You’ll use your skills in network design, architecture, Layer 2 and 3 technologies, and system interoperability to improve reliability, availability, and performance across mission‑focused environments. You will also contribute to engineering efforts including implementation planning, technical reviews, test activities, and upgrades supporting enterprise‑wide modernization.

You’ll apply your knowledge in routing and switching, integration of encryption gear, network design and architecture, system interoperability, IP engineering, network transport layers, gateway protocol, and virtual routing and forwarding as you join our team of problem‑solvers to help the DoD evolve and deploy new capabilities and technologies.

You Have:

2+ years of experience with network configuration, troubleshooting, or engineering support

Experience supporting engineering implementation planning, sustainment engineering, or technical reviews

Experience with routing and switching technologies and Layer 2 and 3 network protocols

Knowledge of network design and architecture, OSI model concepts, transport layers, and system interoperability

Knowledge of cryptographic equipment, network security technologies, and firewall implementations

Ability to perform Tier III troubleshooting of complex issues

Ability to interpret network diagrams, engineering documentation, and lab test outputs

HS diploma or GED

Nice If You Have:

Experience conducting network health assessments or supporting modernization efforts

Experience performing lab automation or developing repeatable test workflows

Knowledge of gateway protocols, virtual routing and forwarding, or optical networking

Knowledge of mission‑aligned enterprise networking standards and emerging technologies

Ability to identify improvements for network resiliency, capacity, or security

Ability to mentor junior engineers or support higher‑level planning efforts

Possession of strong communication skills for technical discussions and engineering reviews

Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering, IT, or Cyber field

CCNA, CCNP, or Security+ Certification
