Job summary

County of San Mateo is seeking a Network Engineer - IS Communication Specialist II to design, implement, and maintain the county-wide enterprise network. The role covers routing, switching, wireless, WAN, VPNs, security, and monitoring, with opportunities to mentor junior staff and lead projects.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with EIGRP/OSPF/BGP, Cisco ASA or Palo Alto firewalls, and SolarWinds, along with strong technical writing skills and the ability to work in an on-call

Qualifications

Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in providing technical support in the installation, maintenance, and repair of network systems.
Completion of coursework and/or training in information systems, computer science, or related field.
Knowledge of network security design, routing, switching, and VoIP technologies.

Responsibilities

Define, assist in design, and implement system infrastructure and solutions.
Troubleshoot and resolve network problems; provide user training and documentation.
Install, configure, and maintain network equipment and software; monitor performance.
Respond to inquiries, coordinate with vendors, and participate in project teams.
