Westchester Medical Center Health Network is seeking a senior Network Engineer III for its Core team. The role focuses on design and support of network fabric, cloud-scale servers, and automation for a production environment.

The ideal candidate has extensive networking expertise, programming skills, and the ability to lead others while maintaining operations and documentation across LAN/MAN/WAN/cloud environments.

Qualifications

  • 6 years of experience in network engineering, telecommunications and/or infrastructure.
  • Experience in healthcare technology support preferred.
  • Experience with device management/integration preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Function as part of a team in advanced support of network infrastructure, equipment (routers, switches, VPN), cabling and peripherals.
  • Supports the design, deployment, and operations of large-scale, regional and global cloud computing environments.
  • Participates in network solution and architecture design process; responsible for developing standalone features.
  • Design and execute network tasks using established procedures and tools.
  • Collaborate with program/project managers to develop milestones and deliverables.
  • Provide break-fix support and act as escalation point for remediation; participate in post-event root cause analysis.
  • Coordinate with vendor TAC and QA teams to drive bug resolution and assess firmware/OS.
  • Participate or lead development of RFQ/RFPs and coordinate networking automation tooling.
  • Serve as technical SME in cross-functional activities and as back-up to manager.

Job description

The Network Engineer level III is a senior level position within the Core team of WMC IT. They are responsible for the design and support of network fabric and systems. The senior level engineer requires a deep level understanding of networking at the protocol level, coupled with programming skills to support the intensive automation required to operate a production environment. The senior engineer oversees enterprise and cloud-scale servers, connected over a mix of dedicated backbone infrastructure and the Internet. The level III Engineer is responsible for technology design as well as operations. Responsibilities include equipment upgrades, installations, system maintenance, quality testing, and technical support. They will perform advanced troubleshooting tasks using established tools and protocols. They will follow and ensure that WMC Asset Management, Configuration and Security Standards are met. They are responsible for the verification of LAN, MAN, WAN and Cloud network availability and performance. As the lead member of the team, they will oversee the documentation of all activities and outcomes with the IT Service desk. They will coordinate and collaborate with other WMC IT Teams in support of system access, project rollout, problem resolution and end user support. The level III Network Engineer will assist junior members of the team on advanced aspects of the aforementioned areas for growth and knowledge.

Responsibilities
  • Function as part of a team in advanced support of Network infrastructure, equipment (routers, switches, VPN), communications circuitry, cabling, and peripherals.
  • Supports the design, deployment, and operations of large-scale, regional and global cloud computing environment
  • Participates in network solution and architecture design process. Responsibility for developing standalone features.
  • Responsible for the design and execution of network related tasks using WMC established procedures and tools.
  • Collaborate with program/project managers to develop milestones and deliverables.
  • Participate in operational rotations as either primary or secondary overseer.
  • Provide break-fix support for events and serve as escalation point for remediation; participate in post-event root cause analysis.
  • Collaborate with network vendor technical account team and internal Quality Assurance team to drive bug resolution and assist in the qualification of new firmware and/or operating systems.
  • Will participate or lead the development of RFQ/RFPs.
  • Coordinate with networking automation services for the development and integration of support tooling.
  • Serves as technical Subject Matter Expert in cross-functional activities.
  • Serves as backup to manager as necessary to ensure continuity of operations.
Qualifications/Requirements
Experience
  • 6 years of experience in network engineering, telecommunications and/or infrastructure, required
  • Experience in healthcare technology support, including hardware or infrastructure, preferred
  • Experience with device management/integration, preferred
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, science, or related field, required
  • Master’s degree, preferred
