Job summary

FHLBank Topeka in Topeka, KS is seeking a network engineer to design, implement, and maintain networks across office, data centers, and cloud environments, ensuring secure, reliable connectivity.

You will plan architectures, configure hardware, monitor performance, and address issues while collaborating with IT security and other IT staff. Some travel may be required; Cisco certs and 5+ years experience preferred.

Qualifications

• College degree required; Cisco certs highly regarded.
• 5+ years of network engineering experience.
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, BGP, switching, routing.
• Experience with IaC and cloud platforms.

Responsibilities

• Plan and design network architectures across LAN/WAN/VPNs.
• Configure and install routers, switches, servers, and related software.
• Monitor performance and address issues to maximize uptime.
• Collaborate with IT security on firewalls and IDS/IPS.
• Document configurations, processes, and troubleshooting steps.
• Assist with system administration tasks as part of IT team.

Job Description

Responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, monitoring, and troubleshooting computer networks for the Bank's office, data centers, and cloud environments to ensure optimal performance and stable, secure systems.

In This Role, You Will

• Plan and design network architectures, including LANs, WANs, VPNs, and other network types.
• Configure and install network hardware (like routers, switches, and servers) and software.
• Monitor network performance to ensure optimal functionality and uptime. Proactively identify and address potential issues.
• Ensure network security by collaborating with IT Security on firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and other protective measures. Ensure baseline security configurations are implemented and maintained, and vulnerabilities addressed.
• Diagnose and resolve network issues to minimize downtime and maintain connectivity.
• Maintain up-to-date documentation of network configurations, processes, and troubleshooting steps.
• Work with other IT professionals to integrate and optimize systems and assist with system administration tasks.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to a college degree. Cisco certifications highly regarded.
• Five or more years of similar or related professional experience.
• Strong knowledge of networking including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, BGP, switching, routing, wireless.
• Experience with Cisco ACI highly regarded.
• Proficiency in network diagnostic and monitoring tools.
• Familiarity with network security best practices.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code technologies and methodologies highly regarded.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, and AWS highly regarded.
• Accessible via cell phone during core bank hours, as well as after-hours, as needed, to provide support for normal business operations.
• Able to work and travel independently and use general office equipment.
