Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with 2+ years of related experience or Master’s with relevant experience.
  • Active US Government Secret or higher clearance (background investigation within 6 years).
  • Experience with hardware/software subsystem requirements analysis and documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Define functional and physical architecture; create design drawings.
  • Involve in test/verification; create verification matrices and oversee testing.
  • Collaborate across functions and with suppliers.
  • Configure/troubleshoot network devices; Cisco IOS‑XE required.
  • Work with IP4 design, including BGP/OSPF/EIGRP routing.

Description

Northrop Grumman’s Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking a Network Engineer or Principal Network Engineer to join our Avionics organization in Melbourne, FL. The role involves designing, planning, and implementing secure IP‑based network communications systems for mission‑critical aircraft, delivering detailed architecture schematics, hardware/software specifications, and capacity forecasts.

Responsibilities and Expectations
  • Practical knowledge of functional and physical architecture definition, interface control, and creation of design drawings.
  • Hands‑on involvement in test and verification processes, including creating verification matrices, overseeing hardware/software test, and managing test documentation.
  • Strong communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration and supplier interaction.
  • Solid understanding of IP4 network design, including IP subnetting and routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP.
  • Configure and troubleshoot common network devices; required: Cisco IOS‑XE.
  • Advanced network topics such as GRE/IPSEC tunnels, VRF, VRRP.
  • Network management protocols, including SNMP, SSH, syslog, RADIUS/TACACS.
Qualifications

Position may be filled at the Network Engineer or Principal Network Engineer level as guided by the following qualifications.

Basic Qualifications: Network Engineer Level
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field and at least 2 years of relevant military/professional experience, or a Master’s degree in a STEM field and at least some relevant military/professional/academic experience.
Basic Qualifications: Principal Network Engineer Level
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field and at least 5 years of relevant military/professional experience, or a Master’s degree in a STEM field and at least 3 years of relevant military/professional experience, or a PhD and at least 1 year of relevant military/professional/academic experience.
Both Levels
  • Active US Government Secret or higher clearance (background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled in Continuous Evaluation).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
  • Experience performing requirements analysis and developing technical requirement documentation for hardware/software subsystems.
  • Experience supporting acquisition activities such as RFP development, supplier coordination, and reviewing supplier deliverables.
  • Experience with data acquisition from aerospace interfaces, specifically MIL‑STD‑1553 or equivalent bus protocols.
Preferred Qualifications
  • DODD 8570 certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or similar network/security certifications.
  • Familiarity with AGILE processes and SCRUM tools (JIRA, Confluence).
  • Proficiency with Windows and Linux configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Professional networking certifications (CCNA/CCNP/CCIE or equivalent).
  • Experience with authentication and data encryption methods at the datalink or network layer.
  • Experience with embedded systems, Unix, Linux, single board computers, servers, and Network Attached Storage (NAS) solutions.
  • Experience with non‑Cisco networking environments such as Juniper or Palo Alto.
  • Experience with virtualization environments.
  • Knowledge of cyber security and Risk Managed Framework (RMF), STIGs, and associated elements.
  • Familiarity with network management applications such as Splunk, Firepower Management Center (FMC), and/or Cisco ISE.
  • Experience with HAIPE/TACLANE and other military COMSEC/CRYPTO equipment and procedures.
  • Experience with tactical/military radio networks such as Common Data Link (CDL) and ANW2.
  • Experience troubleshooting with traffic capture tools (Wireshark, tcpdump), nmap, and netcat.
Compensation and Benefits

Primary Level Salary Range: $72,100.00 - $108,100.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $89,400.00 - $134,200.00

Employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonuses. Annual bonuses reward individual contributions and company results.
