Job summary

MidAmerican Energy Company in Iowa seeks a versatile Network Engineer at multiple levels. You will develop plans, resource requirements, and cost estimates for transmission, distribution, voice and data networks, generation maintenance projects and facilities.

You will assist in network planning and implementation, monitor operations, coordinate cross-functional activities, and support incident analysis and recovery efforts to ensure reliable, scalable communications infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science or related field.
• Typically four years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.
• Basic experience with voice and data networking or telecommunications.
• Technical skills including programming, installation, configuration, and database management.
• Basic analysis and design skills involving the ability to gather data on systems issues, define alternative approaches, assess business impact, and develop and implement those solutions.
• Basic knowledge of current technologies, tools, applications, and vendors.
• Effective oral and written communication skills and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.

Responsibilities

• Develop plans, resource requirements, and cost estimates for construction and maintenance projects.
• Assist in the development and documentation of voice and data network plans for upgrades.
• Assist in the implementation and documentation of voice and data systems, network configurations and architecture.
• Participate in reviews of analyses and feasibility to develop deployment strategies.
• Assess growth forecasts and ensure network capacity meets business needs.
• Support efforts to resolve network problems and incidents through root cause analysis.
