Job summary

Advocate Health in Milwaukee, WI, seeks a Network & Telecommunications Engineer to maintain and advance enterprise networking. You will monitor performance, resolve issues, and collaborate with multiple internal teams and vendors to ensure reliable connectivity across hospitals and clinics.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in CS or related field and at least 3 years of IT experience, with Cisco CCST or higher expected within the first year.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain network performance for enterprise systems including hospitals and facilities.
  • Monitor system performance and resolve network issues; escalate when needed.
  • Support networking systems with multiple IS departments and vendors.
  • Implement routine network changes under guidance of senior engineers.
  • Work independently or in teams; manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Follow change management processes and document incidents.
  • Install network components (routers, switches, cabling, UPS) as directed.
  • Contribute to infrastructure standards and project work.

Schedule Details/Additional Information:

Mon - Fri - 8 to 5 pm First shift- Hybrid in Wisconsin.

Interview process: 3 rounds (1 interview onsite in Milwaukee)

Pay Range:

$30.70 - $46.05

Major Responsibilities:

Maintains the technical performance of network systems supporting the enterprise, which includes hospitals, medical office buildings, physician practices, administrative and financial offices, and all support facilities.

Monitors system performance and takes appropriate action to ensure the best performance and utilization of network resources. Participates in localized problem determination and resolution. Seeks guidance from senior staff or escalates appropriately.

Supports the networking systems, working with multiple IS departments and vendors to provide stable and reliable network connectivity. Demonstrates basic knowledge of the network infrastructure for which they provide administration.

Implement routine risk network changes and design network solutions (switches, routers, and system hardware) with guidance from senior engineers while following established designs and configurations previously developed.

Works in both in a team setting and independently, accepting instruction and leadership from fellow team members.

Works well under pressure, able to multi-task.

Follows defined protocols for working with customers. Resolves help desk tickets and network problems. Tracks and trends issues and drives resolution. Understands and follows change management processes.

Physically and logically install components (routers, switches, physical cabling, UPS, etc) into a single unified network under the direction of more experienced network engineers.

Assists in less complex projects to define network infrastructure requirements and recommendations for appropriate solutions. Participates in determining hardware, software, and administrative standards and procedures.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

Cisco Certified Support Technician (CCST) or higher within first year of hiring

Education Required:

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Computer Science or related.

Experience Required:

3 year experience in IT or equivalent knowledge.

No relocation, No Sponsorship or transfer of visa for this position now or in the future.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

This position will require proficiency in verbal and written communications.

Ability to effectively handle customer contacts and problem resolution.

Time Management - Ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently, manage priorities, and complete assignments in a timely manner and meet productivity standards.

Strong ability to work independently, exercise judgment and creativity in analyzing and solving unusual problems or situations that arise.

Knowledge of network protocols, routing protocols, wireless protocols and broadband.

Knowledge/skills in client/server, general networking, IPAM/DNS/DHCP, Internet, and hardware - routers, switches, etc.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Must be available for callback support on a regular basis. This position requires evenings and weekend hours at times for conversions, due to schedules.

Must have own dependable transportation.

Employee does not have direct patient contact.

Must be able to sit up to 80% of each workday.

Must be able to perform fine hand manipulation when using computer keyboard and be able to type 50%+ of the workday.

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs on occasion.

Must be able to twist, bend, and kneel.

Must have ability to perform work-related travel.

Preferred Job Requirements:

Education: Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or related field preferred.

Certificate/License: Cisco Certifications preferred
