Network Engineer
Position located at Troy - T01. The Network Engineer will be responsible for designing, planning, and maintaining advanced networking solutions to support the university's information technology infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Designing and/or planning for network enhancements
- Providing network capacity training
- Assisting in building VPN accounts using FortiAuthenticator
- Maintaining existing network equipment, including routers, switches, security devices, load‑balancers, wireless controllers, access points, firewalls, monitoring servers, and responding to anomalies
- Monitoring network systems for failures and performance anomalies
- Troubleshooting network issues independently and with network consultants
- Providing end‑user support via helpdesk tickets
- Completing daily systems reporting and scheduling duties
- Operating software and hardware such as OPSWAT SafeConnect NAC, FortiNAC, BNA (Brocade Network Advisor), PRTG (Equipment Monitoring Agent), FortiAnalyzer, Panorama Firewall Management Solution, Aruba Mobility Conductor, Vectra Security AI, and QRadar Offense Correlation
- Coordinating with external vendors for ISP connectivity and MPLS connection support, obtaining pricing, handling outages, and managing scheduled maintenance outages
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or five years of related work experience
- Extensive hands‑on technical knowledge of enterprise‑level network systems, protocols, and standards (NAC, Ethernet, LAN, WLAN, TCP/IP, MPLS, OSPF, BGP, etc.) in switched, routed, firewalled, and wireless environments
- Strong knowledge of enterprise network management, monitoring, and analysis tools
- Knowledge of enterprise security products and data privacy practices and regulations
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
- Ability to research security issues, new network technologies, and products as needed
- Ability to present ideas in user‑friendly language
- Highly self‑motivated with strong attention to detail
- Proven analytical and problem‑solving abilities
- Ability to apply and follow project management principles and tasks
- Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high‑pressure environment
- Strong customer service skills
- Team‑oriented and collaborative mindset
- Flexible work hours as needed, with independence and minimal supervision
