Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a skilled network engineer to support Navy network design and RMF compliance in a U.S. DoD environment. The role focuses on developing topologies, templates, IP plans, test plans, and SD-WAN configurations to meet system requirements.

You will document risk assessments, support ATO readiness, and coordinate cyber operations with program leads, while staying hands-on with virtualization and network infrastructure to ensure reliable operations.

Qualifications

  • Six+ years in DoD/government IT system engineering.
  • Three+ years developing technical documentation.
  • Proven client-facing experience with Navy/DoD stakeholders.
  • Experience with SDN/SD-WAN tech and vendors (VMware NSX-T, Cisco, Juniper).
  • Network configuration for L2/L3 switches, routers, and security appliances.
  • Proven ability to document network topologies.
  • Experience troubleshooting network and system outages.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies.
  • CCNP or equivalent certification.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Support the design of Navy networks
  • Development of network topologies and templates from system requirements
  • Development of network templates and IP plans
  • Development of test plans and documentation
  • Configuration and documentation of SDWAN solutions
  • Prepare, develop, and maintain Risk Management Framework (RMF) artifacts, packages, and deliverables to support system validation and authorization to operate (ATO)
  • Perform risk and vulnerability assessments in network, system, and application areas
  • Coordinate day-to-day cybersecurity operations with program technical leads to discover cyber risks, understand applicable policies, and develop mitigation plans
  • Maintain RMF documents for system baseline variants that have achieved ATO
  • Work independently, identify problems and devise analyses and solutions, communicate results to both technical and non-technical audiences, and lead the accomplishments of client tasks from inception to completion
Requirements
  • Minimum of six (6) years’ experience supporting the engineering of Information Technology systems for a DoD or Government Agency
  • 3+ years of experience developing technical documentation
  • Proven track record of performance in client-facing roles that require engagement and relationship building with stakeholders across Navy programs, the DoD, or other federal agencies
  • Experience with SDN/ SD-WAN Technologies and vendors, including VMware, NSX-T, Cisco, Juniper, and open-source solutions
  • Experience with network configuration for L2/L3 switches, routers, security appliances (firewalls, NIDS, NIPS, etc)
  • Experience developing and documenting network topologies
  • Experience in troubleshooting and restoring network and system outages
  • Experience in virtualization technologies
  • CCNP (or equivalent) certification

Demonstrates expertise in developing network topologies, configurations, and documentation while ensuring compliance with Risk Management Framework (RMF) standards. Proven ability to perform risk assessments and coordinate cybersecurity operations within DoD environments.
